Charles Finney's comments (if any) on Restoration Movement in 1800's
My name is Mike Karoules. I am member of CARM discussion list but have never posted or interacted under the History Category. In a nutshell I wish to ask if anyone knows (one who probably has a pretty good handle on the writings of Charles Finney; no expert required) whether Charles Finney spoke of or wrote about the Restoration movement[churches of Christ] which was taking place throughout many areas in the United States along side with Charles Finney's ministry (2nd Great Awakening)?
The Restoration movement brought about the churches of Christ (as we know them today), but there were some very stark differences between the Restoration Movement (Churches of Christ) and Charles Finney's ministry and revivals. For one, the concept of salvation for each of these movements was different. Charles Finney emphasised that a sinner should "pray through fervently" until some personal breakthrough would occur, while the Restoration movement believed that salvation was formal and outlined in the Scriptures as a 5 step plan of salvation which if anyone did - would be saved. Each of these movements would also have some major differences in the work and ministry of the Holy Spr't, but they took place concurrent one with another in the 1800's. Again, my basic question: did Charles Finney write or say anything about the Restoration Movement that we have recorded and could read for today? Thank you>
I also would take leads or links if no one can come up with anything specific; or, perhaps you know someone on CARM that would know this information. If so, would you please tap this person and lead him to this thread?
