Over here in the UK we urgently need your prayers. Our coalition government has set about a process to re-define marriage. This follows the move to establish civil partnerships a few years ago, and the aim is to create legal status for same-sex marriages.
We are going through a consultation process, which used to mean that the government wanted to consult the public on whether or not to go through with this process. Unfortunately, we are not being asked, we are being told that it is going ahead, and the consultation is to find out how we are reacting to it. So they have re-defined "consultation" as well.
There was no mention of the re-defining of marriage in any of the political parties' election manifestos, so nobody voted for it.
The implications are enormous, even frightening, because all manner of test cases will be brought by the various lobby groups to force churches to more or less dance to the gay lobby's tune. People have already lost their jobs, or been demoted, for merely mentioning in private what they think. This is just the start of things, and they are likely to get much worse.
Could you pray for the church and the individual christians here, that we will be strong, faithful and wise, and that God will work on the politicians involved, calling them to conscience.
