Roman Catholics Believe in 'Plenary Indulgences,' but . . .

Interesting. If a catholic is incarcerated for a crime and that 'temoral punishment' is removed through an indulgence are they set free? This is the nonsense man made religion fools people into believing.
No an indulgence doesn't absolve due restitution for a crime or sin. It relates to the injury to the relationship between a person and God that is the effect of sin. You know that hurt felt at having let God down and let yourself down. It impacts on all relationships around you. That's the temporal punishment meant.

We were taught that we had the assurance of salvation when I went through RC schools. Is this new teachings?
That depends on what you mean by "assurance."

If you mean "Can you know that you are in God's family, God's Grace, and thus, destined for heaven, vs. not in God's Grace, need to repent, etc?" Of course, you can. This is why God gave us a conscience.

Well most RCs post the faith, through grace, is not enough to save. So you tell me, we have asked often what else?
That is because Protestants are so stubborn and thick necked that the refuse to understand Catholic teaching on Faith and works.

Works are NOT "added" to Faith. Faith and works are BOTH aspects of GRACE.

No we are talking about assurance of heaven and you knew that. More game playing, diverting.

Your views have been different to other RCs who claim it is faith plus.

But then RCs are so stubborn and thick necked that they refuse to understand non RC teachings on saving faith. Works without faith are nothing.

I just love the way RCs keep talking about being nice and then we get these posts. Feeling the love.

Matt.5:23
Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar,
and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way;
first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly,
whiles thou art in the way with him;
lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge,
and the judge deliver thee to the officer,
and thou be cast into prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee,
Thou shalt by no means come out thence,
till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way;
first be reconciled to thy brother,

Now that is hard to do

So
Hey; says Rome
just buy an indulgence from us that sell;
and all is good

Yes, Matthew 5 describes an indulgence. To my knowledge outside the Catholic Church, that practice no longer exists?

but Solomon and Christ say different

Proverbs 1:1
The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation;
the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

Proverbs 6:1
6 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend,
if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth,
thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself,
when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go,
humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter,
and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

The selling of indulgences is condemned for hundreds of years. No one is asked to pay.

How is Matthew 5 26 taught in your church?

Matt.12:33
Wherefore I say unto you,
All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men:
but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man,
it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost,
it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world,
neither in the world to come.
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good;
or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt:
for the tree is known by his fruit.
34 O generation of vipers,
how can ye, being evil, speak good things?
for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things:
and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak,
they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified,
and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
1Peter 4:11
11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God;
if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth:
that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ,
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you,
as though some strange thing happened unto you:
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ,
happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you:
on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
..
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak,
they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

In that case then, you must also know that because Roman Catholicism teaches that a [Roman Catholic] 'Christian' may lose his or her salvation, it argues that "not even faith . . . or conversion . . . or reception of baptism . . . or constancy throughout life . . . can gain for one the right to salvation . . . " and that all these are held to be only "the forerunners of attainment" toward salvation.

This is exactly where presumption is sin. When the 'elect' presume a right to salvation, which we are taught is not actually a right.
