    The letters to the seven churches were three-fold. First, to the current church (why not all the churches? Where is the letter to Corinth? Or Galatia?) Individual Christians like all martyrs throughout church history, not just those from the town of Smyrna. And, of course, prophecy of church ages. @Ladodgers6 and @J. R. Reynolds

    The other churches already had letters from the other apostles, which included some apocalyptic warnings, as did the Gospels.
