RCs like a work based salvation

Hellooooooooooooo eveyone (who might remember me lol) - So, I was reading in John this morning and saw a couple of verses that made me think of everyone here and couldn't really remember seeing them used to refute this "works" thing the RCC has. John 6:28-29 Therefore they said to Him, “What...

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

Smyth is credited with founding the Baptist denomination. Agree re: prosperity gospel and add faith healing (not that God won't heal...but the twisted version that if He doesn't, something is "wrong" with you).

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

I never go by I win/you lose. I only care about rightly dividing the word and I know I'm not always right - but I do pray and study. I won't be so close minded as to refuse to look into any credible resource. I could not care less about human canons and have never, ever, in 50+ years followed...

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

Because those Christians were inspired by God. Pretty sure He got it right ;)

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

That's funny. Who said I "follow" him? You cite sources all the time, including Augustine in this thread. He's not meant to be "Christ or scripture" and it's ridiculous to even say that. This is generally the way people admit they have nothing left to stand on without admitting they have...

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

My point is that it's not about gender. Jesus taught His disciples to pray to our Father; He is King of Kings, etc. The Holy Spirit, being God, the same applies to Him. God identifies, if you will, as male. And because he explains it better than I: Linguistically, it is clear that masculine...

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

Being made in God's image "male and female" isn't a gender/sex issue, as being Spirit, God is neither. We are made in His image, His likeness, in mind, will, moral capacity, intellect, etc., not sex/gender. God (the Father), the Son, and the Spirit are all specifically referred to as male aside...

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

First, since I know you aren't catholic, I'm not going to argue with you - second - my reply was to "What in God's word contradicts the Assumption of Mary?" I know they claim it's a requirement for salvation. Whether or not Mary was assumed into heaven IS relevant to my reply and the fact that...

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

If you can't get the essentials of the Christian faith from scripture alone, which is the only source that is God-breathed and inspired by Him, by what standard do you measure true doctrine? The reason we know the assumption of Mary is false doctrine is because it was never taught, never...

What things in the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox church teachings of TODAY are NOT in the Early Church Fathers' Teachings?

How does the creation of man = God being male and female? The "Our" is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Greek is pagan? Spirit has no gender, but God clearly represents Himself as male.
