What was Jesus really revealing about the "Generaton" in Matthew 24:34?

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Who is the "you"? In my opinion, the "you" are the people Jesus was...

     Matt 23:37 - "Interpretation"

I don't want to derail your thread. My observation is this is not the only topic where people read themselves into a Bible verse/passage. Our Dispensational friends regularly read themselves into prophetic passages.

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will...

Clouds are a descriptor of judgement. If you look throughout the OT, YHWH comes on clouds too. But no one literally sees him... They saw his judgement. Sun, moon, and stars are also easy to explain... Instead of a literal approach, understanding apocalyptic language may help to understand where...

I tend to disagree. It seems Jesus was speaking to the Generation alive at that time when he was giving his woes... Like I said earlier, every time Jesus said, "This generation", it looks like he was speaking to the generation in his presence. It's OKay to disagree... Have a great day!!

You are assuming the Fig Tree generation is future to us. There is no proof in the text. It is an assumption based upon your eschatological presuppositions. You are welcome to believe what you believe. IMHO, your hermeneutic is errant. I will also remind you that your interpretation is just...

I think using a race of men for generation is misleading. I say this because every Jew who ever lived takes the blame for a perverse generation who has already come and gone...

How not? You have to read into the text to assign what you want it to say... 32Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its branches become tender and sprout leaves, you know that summer is near. 33So also, when you see all these things, you will know that He is near, right at the...

This is very nice. I do not believe it applies to the way Jesus uses 'generation' in the Gospels. See the quotes below... Matthew 11:16 “To what should I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces who call out to one another, Matthew 12:39 But he answered...

Not trying to be haughty, this is not pick-the-definition that best fits "my presupposition." Every time "generation" was used by Jesus, and he used it over 20 times, it was describing the "generation" of his day. To make one exception for a two-hundred-year-old eschatological system is a...

That is not what the scripture says... Note the word until 42 For David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my lord, “Sit at my right hand, 43 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’ Christ will not return until the Father makes His enemies a footstool.

The reason you have not seen this in 70 AD is due to your chosen hermeneutic. You are using a hyper literalized hermeneutic. This passage is apocalyptic language that has loads of symbolism taken from the Old Testament. Go to the OT and look at the sun, the moon and the stars and see how...

My bet is that SW did not know this doctrine and he assumed it was meant to represent Jesus. I just learned this about 10 or so years back. I'm a Christ follower for 36 years+ now.
