    Chesterton on the Fall

I have occasionally acted with selfless compassion and goodwill. Where did this good nature come from? If from God, for what purpose would he give us opposing (good and bad) natures? Can someone explain this to me? In the words of Inspector Poirot, “I don’t understand anything here.”

Why I Have Difficulty Loving and Forgiving Enemies

That’s a thought provoking question. I can't come up with an answer. Jesus called certain people hypocrites, snakes, vipers, dogs, pigs and blind fools. He’d likely have had his CARM account suspended.

    The Irony Of It All

I think you’ve made it tolerably clear from your many posts that you reject God because you consider Him immoral, not because you wish to sin without punishment. If I understand the Gospels correctly, God’s default position is to hold us accountable for our actions. And He doesn’t grant eternal...

    Hypothetical Question for Christians

I might feel mildly disappointed – I like the concept of an omnipotent, omniscient, and morally perfect being. Other than that, however, it would have little effect on me. That’s because, I don’t believe a being capable of creating the Universe and life need be omnipotent, omniscient, and...

    Infant "Baptism"

Thank you BJ Bear for your informative reply. I, too, believe that the benefits promised in baptism are for all who are baptized. I must ask myself, however, whether a baptism has actually happened when devoid of a participant's belief or faith. It looks to me like the example of Christian...

    Infant "Baptism"

Here are people burdened with sin and a guilty conscience: "When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37) Peter has the remedy for people burdened with sin and a guilty conscience: "Peter replied...

    Where Christianity Diverges from Scripture

I guess Job 1:8-12 is tripping me up. It shows God allowing Satan to bring on Job's troubles, rather than God himself instigating or bringing on Job's troubles: “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You...

    Where Christianity Diverges from Scripture

So, what Satan intended as harm for Paul and to thwart God, God turned around and used for Paul's good. Then the claim "Satan is just doing God's work" should not be understood to mean both work together for a comon cause. They have different purposes and outcomes in mind.

    Where Christianity Diverges from Scripture

In Job 1:8-12 the Lord allows Satan to bring trouble to Job. Whereas in Job 42:11 it is said that the Lord brought the trouble to Job. Perhaps the author reasoned that the Lord ultimately brought Job's troubles since Satan could not have brought them without His okay?
