I'd say that the RCC hierarchy are the successors of the apostles Paul writes of in 2Cor.11. They have: another Jesus (their Jesus must go to its Mommy for everything), a different spirit (as seen by their fruits – or rather the lack of — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness...

And God's Word is dangerous – to both parties. God has often used His Word to open people's eyes to the falsehoods of the religious system which they believe.

Their Masters tell them that "it's not really worship", and that message appeals to the natural man, and the laity says, "Oh. OK, it's not really worship," denying what everybody else can see is worship.

Actually, the only "authority" the Roman Catholic Church has is that given to it by its dupes adherents. And the adherents are only too glad to surrender their responsibility to those who say, "Don't worry, We gotcha covered!"

Because Rome is reaping the results of centuries of denying God's Word. First, they denied God's Word, then they denied the ECFs, then they denied their own church councils. So it is no wonder that modern RCs deny what their church has taught – they take after their Masters.
