2 Corinthians 5:21 - become the righteousness of God

Can you put a date and time to that is universally agreed to by the minions of the deformation? Catholics are still here as He promised, not even the gates of Hell and protest-ism will prevail.

Can you show me where Jesus promised that Roman Catholics would never die?

Islam is still with us, and it does not have the truth. Same with Hinduism. Does this mean that these religions have the truth, since they have not died out?

The real, true church is not a formal, organized institution, per se. The true church is the rule of Jesus Christ in the hearts of all true believers in Him, for salvation, great and free.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21

For by grace you have been saved through the faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of Go not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

work out your salvation with fear and trembling for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:12-13

Of course He did! And He paid it completely. And when we have faith in Him unto salvation, we then become the righteousness of God in Him. The Great Exchange! :)
The difference is that in your doctrine you are already Gods righteousness whereas we are in a process of becoming such through a faith journey until we meet Him on the last day.

But when we have faith in Jesus Christ our Lord, HIS righteousness becomes our own and covers our sins. We are righteous NOW, but not with our own righteousness--for we have none of our own--but the righteousness of God with which He has gifted us, on account of our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and God and Savior.

I agree that those who are in Christ Jesus should grow in faith in life's journey. But that doesn't make us MORE righteous, for this righteousness is a gift from God through our faith in His Son. God's righteousness is complete. It is full. I don't know how to express it exactly, but this is the best I can do.

And how does Jesus teach his followers to surpass the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees?

Certainly, Matthew 16:18-19

True believing is not saying "I believe". Rather living and doing "I believe". It's not cheap, it takes work in searching and purchasing it with good works; you can't get it for nothing, instead you need to sell all you have to pay for it. [Cf. Matthew 13:44]

Read the rest of the chapter, that's how.

You have heard it said........... righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees
But I say to you....................... the righteousness of God

Jesus calls his disciples to a much higher "standard" than the Law.

Certainly, Matthew 16:18-19

Talk about eisegesus! This has zero to do with Roman Catholics! What arrogance your church has!
It does not mean they have truth.

No kidding? But your church teaches many unbiblical doctrines, "teaching for doctrine the precepts of men." They worship God in vain when they do so.

Do you know what it means to be a new creation in Christ Jesus our Lord?

More proof that Jesus becomes our righteousness:

Jeremiah 23, which is a Messianic passage:

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“When I will raise up for David a righteous [c]Branch;
And He will reign as king and [d]act wisely
And do justice and righteousness in the land.
6 “In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell securely;
And this is His name by which He will be called,
‘The Lord OUR righteousness.

So you plan on meriting your salvation. Won't work. Believing is TRUSTING Jesus' atoning work on the cross. Salvation is not what we do, but what Jesus did!

Were the scribes and Pharisees truly righteous?

There is only one way to be righteous now in God's sight....do you know what that way is? Let's see if you do.

Paul tells us:

Romans 2:13, "For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but the doers of the law who will be justified."

sure,,if they keep the law

3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

3:21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus

Those are great verses. Here are some more:

Romans 8:2-4, "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and to deal with sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."

Under the NC God is putting his laws in our minds and writing them in our hearts. God is making it possible for us to keep the law if we walk according to the Spirit and not the flesh.

The only way to keep the Law, in God's sight, is by grace through faith in Christ Jesus our Lord. HIS perfect keeping of the Law then becomes our own, since He paid for our sins on the cross. This is the only way to be righteous in God's sight. And we walk according to the Spirit when the HS indwells us, enabling us to bear good spiritual fruit for God.

Scripture never says that his perfect keeping of the Law then becomes our own. That doctrine is a false doctrine.

Paul tells us:

Romans 2:13, "For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but the doers of the law who will be justified."
And can anyone keep the Law perfectly, this side of heaven? Remember, we are by nature "children of wrath."

So, how do we keep the Law perfectly now? Remember, James says if we break one law, we are guilty of ALL of it.
