according to the saints, very very few make it to Heaven

This is what the canonized saints say, that hardly anyone gets into Heaven

there is St Bernard
St Augustine
St Bellarmine

St Jerome

and others..

And they were all Catholic, so there's that...

How do they know?

Well, St Bernard and St Leonard of Port Maurice... interesting stories there...
WHO CARES what the "canonized saints" say. They're not the Bible!!!

No doubt about it. That's not the point. The point is were they inspired or not?

And when it finds its way into the New Testament? You still feel this is the case when Paul quotes them?

So were these pagan poets inspired or not? Does their poetry or philosophy become inspired only when it finds its way into the bible?

The Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit. It contains records of things that happened and often quotes what people say. This does not mean that everyone who is quoted was inspired by God, yet even someone who isn't inspired can say things that are true. This is true even of pagan poets and philosophers. The fact that the Bible acknowledges these truths doesn't mean that everything the poets or philosophers said was true.

They are Christians. That's what it means to profess one's faith.

To profess one's faith means to claim to be a Christian. Satan and his demons are at work in the world teaching false ways of salvation to keep people from the truth. Many who profess to be Christians have been deceived by this false teaching.

No. To claim to be a Christian is just a matter of identification.

Ya think?
Many who profess to be Christians have been deceived by this false teaching.
Probably all of them. Given that professing one's faith is not the standard by which Christ knows his bride, they're all deceived.

I wasn't suggesting they were. What I actually posted was the fact that most Christians believe the authors of the bible were inspired by the Holy Spirit while writing what eventually found its way into the bible. Do you see the difference yet?
The fact that the Bible acknowledges these truths doesn't mean that everything the poets or philosophers said was true.
Whatever. I'm not really interested in going on some wild goose chase. The point is that Paul points out a truth which the church claims is inspired. I'm not suggesting that anyone Paul quotes is driven by God to speak only the truth. I'm pointing out that the holy spirit inspires people all the time regardless of whether their words are found in the bible or not. The bible is not the only source for spirit-inspired wisdom.

Imagine being born a Jew and eight days later -- 'snip' ... now a part of the covenant family
Imagine finding out circumcision doesn't provide salvation to eternal life in Christ !

Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.

Php 3:2-3
Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation! (3) For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,

Col 3:8-11
But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. (9) Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, (10) and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, (11) where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

AMEN to baptism... the new covenant family!

Why would you want to believe that stuff when the Bible does not teach such a thing?

Over time the Catholic church became the equivalent of what we now find with the mainstream media. The Catholic church became the CNN - MSNBC.. etc.

Satan has been in the fake news agenda for a long time. He always finds way to work himself into what the people learned to trust.
