It's not my statement that's hilarious, it's that said poster claims proof of God, and that against the mountain of evidence for evolution explaining the diversity of live the best he can manage is, "or God created the crab".

Yes it is. The Bible says that hills can sing and that trees have hands. You interpret that passage as poetry, not as literal. That is where you interpret: "Is this passage literal or is it poetry?"

Yes there is. The interpretation comes in deciding what parts are poetic, and which are not.

For example, the Assyrian invasion of Judah under king Hezekiah is history, as confirmed by the Assyrian records. Sennacherib invaded, captured many cities, besieged Jerusalem, but failed to capture it. He withdrew after receiving a large tribute.

No, 2 Kings 18-19. Don't you bother to read posts before replying to them? Can't you go back through a thread to check back on the conversation? At the very least you are being careless, which means you will lose a lot of arguments.

My husband and I often talk about the stupidity of atheists. I have pointed out that my cousin is Dan Barker, President of the Freedom from religion foundation.

I sent Dan these questions. What makes the scent from a carnation flower different than the scent of a yellow rose? Who created those scents and with what material was used?

The answer is quite simple, they are different chemicals., very subtly different, but enough for the difference to be detectable. What is more intriguing is that it is quantum physics that allows us to detect that difference.

Incidentally, just because atheists do not share your beliefs doesn't make them stupid. Anymore than being a Christian makes you stupid. It isn't stupid to believe in Christ. It is stupid to think that anyone who doesn't believe in Christ is themselves stupid. It's quite demonstrably false, by any measure of stupid you care to use.
