Augustine

It's a good thing... A merry heart is one who is always rejoicing in the Lord. No matter what is going on around us, we can choose to rejoice in the Lord- in His goodness, in His faithfulness, in His love. To Have a Merry Heart, Meditate on the Word of God. It's in the Bible :

Proverbs 17:22

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Proverbs 15:13

A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.

Ecclesiastes 9:7

Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already approved what you do.

John 3:16-17

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

James 5:13

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

Proverbs 15:15

All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.

Proverbs 15:13-14

A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed. The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.

The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes the bones.

When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.

Isaiah 53:4-6

Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:4

Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

Isaiah 51:11

And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Ecclesiastes 10:19

Bread is made for laughter, and wine gladdens life, and money answers everything.

Proverbs 13:12

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

Proverbs 12:25

Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
Those scriptures were fantastic thanks for sharing those with me .

Just goes to prove "you can take the boy outta the Roman Catholic 'church' but not necessarily take the Roman Catholic 'church' outta the boy!"

Augustine was in favour of persecuting & torturing 'heretics' (eg. those who did not conform to the teachings of 'mother 'church''!

Luther was very much an anti-Semite - which he learned well from his former 'church' who persecuted & tortured Jews & Bible believing Christians during the pogroms/Inquisitions of the 'Dark Ages'!
are you still around ? haven't seen you for a while
