Can the atheist present evidence God does not exist?

Present evidence? Yes. Prove it? No. On balance though I see more evidence pointing to there not being a god. At least none of the gods that have been put forward.

How about evidence nature caused the universe and life to begin - that would be a start

I cannot present evidence that God does not exist. That is why I do not believe that. I do not know for sure that God does not exist. I just do not believe that he does exist either.

I also cannot prove that Zeus, Allah, Unicorns, Dragons, or the god Huitzilopochtli exists. Therefore I do not believe in them either.

If an atheist claims that they know God does not exist then I think you are right to ask for proof. But not all atheists claim that.
