Children of priests

The RCC covered up the children of priests. How they failed to have documentation filled out correctly. Some of the children are finding out through DNA that their father is a priest. Compass, a TV show in Australia, is doing a major investigation. A few had mother's were teenage girls. Why not just give these children of priests the information they need. They deserve to know and they deserve to be acknowledge. There are more than I realised. Most were adopted out.

Brendan Watkins is one of thousands of children of priests who found their biological parents through DNA testing and social media. His birth wasn’t the only secret his father kept...
Brendan has discovered that globally there are thousands of children of priests, just like him, who as adults found their biological parents through DNA testing and social media groups. There are 450,000 Catholic priests around the world and, though there are no accurate records, it is estimated that they have fathered over 20,000 children...

Crucially, a 25-year study of 1,500 Catholic priests found less than half the priests in the United States attempt celibacy — which experts say is a major factor fuelling so-called reproductive abuse. The study’s author, ex-priest Richard Sipe, argued it creates a culture of secrecy that tolerates and even protects paedophiles — though he estimated that four times as many priests involve themselves sexually with women than with children...
But Brendan’s mother Maggie then confirmed he was indeed the son of Father Vincent Shiel, who died in 1993, at the age of 90. He was still alive when Brendan first contacted Maggie.

But the priest had sworn his mother to secrecy – Brendan says this was a form of spiritual abuse. “It says so much about the misogyny of the Catholic church, the institution,” he says. “It’s a male-centric institution that doesn’t recognise the rights of women. I found that my mother had met my father when she was 14 or 15, and he was 30 years older … so he had enormous influence over her.”

From the vatican news.va:

Children of priests suffer from one of the “conditions” within the Catholic Church. No one can better describe what this burden is like than one of these children.

“A darker world exists, veiled by history, lies and deception. I lived in this world though I was born into it, thus knowing no difference. This is a world that is buoyed by conditions, and if the child of a priest does not obey these scrupulous conditions, they are ostracised, to begin with. Harm and emotional abuse permeate the duration of their lives; harm is normalised for these people.

“Hidden and buried, these children are called profane names by uncaring people and are sadly viewed as a means to an end of desired secrecy, deception and historical denial. They are threatened, assaulted and manipulated.”

This is sad. The rcc needs to change the marriage rule, better for the priests to be married than to do this kind of thing.

I agree but also they also need to start being honest. Lies are a sign of who found the RCC, it is the father of lies. They do not seem to care about the effects on their victims by their dishonesty and coverups.

The RCC allows such priests to continue in their ministry as well. Even if they are priests under a "vow of poverty", and can't pay reasonable amounts to support their children.

This story I read a piece back about a "Father Uribe" in Oregon, only had a support order of a crummy $300 / month paid by his religious order.

The responsible thing for the RCC to do in this kind of matter is to defrock priests who sire children so they can go out and get a job and support these kids like any other man. These kids didn't take a vow of poverty, after all.

Well you would think 1 Cor 5:11 would apply. I totally agree with you. And if the RCC is pro life, it should ensure that these children get the proper support needed for them to have a decent life. I mean it takes two to tango and the children did not ask to be born.

That article is disgusting the boy was ill and the RCC still avoided providing adequate care. This proves they do not follow Jesus and do not have empathy for their victims.

It also proves that the RCC shows no respect to the community here, by providing shelter to men who don't want to support their own children. I don't think the Magisterium is really obligated to support the Uribe child here, but they should do the right thing and release him from his "vow of poverty" so he can go out and do the right thing himself. The RCC priesthood isn't supposed to be a "French Foreign Legion" where men can go to escape their lives, is it?

I wonder why the RCC does not still allow married men to be priests? It's the norm in the Byzantine and other Eastern Catholic Churches.

oooooh, you meant the offspring of priests, not their sex partners.

In a first, New Orleans priest accused of abusing minors admits wrongdoing

"For the first time ever, one of the New Orleans Catholic church’s most strongly suspected abusers has publicly admitted that he sexually abused or harassed several teenagers during his career as a priest. He’s also described himself as remorseful yet unsure if he’s deserving of any criminal consequences."
"He also claimed that society was more permissive of such behavior at the time, even though Louisiana’s age of consent to have sex in the 1960s and 70s was the same as it is now: 17."

"
He said the bulk of his acknowledged misconduct unfolded amid a sexual revolution” where “people were saying, ‘Oh, look, we were bound all these years, all these centuries – now we’re free.’”
