Example of systemic racism

Thank you that's an interesting read. However there does seem to be some controversy about what's actually happening in the space.

This happens all over as well as when I am with a friend of mine and when we walk by their car women lock their doors.
So all 3 appraisers were racist?

Aren’t they supposed to go by some regulated standards?

I’d like to see how this story plays out. If the appraisers are taking the race of the homeowner into account they are unqualified to do their job and should be fired. Doesn’t that defeat the entire purpose of an appraisal? Are all home appraisers racist?

I hope there's some follow up.

Are numbers racist?
There is no way presented to prove the high number is correct. She likes it more.

I can picture all 3 appraisals be wrong and the house worth 81,000. The wind shift and the dude with the high appraisal didn't smell the sewage plant across the street. He didn't notice the shingles were asbestos.

Here's a formal study on the issue, linked to in the newspaper article that was linked to in the reddit post that was linked to in the OP (sheesh!).

https://www.brookings.edu/research/devaluation-of-assets-in-black-neighborhoods/
This makes some interesting points, but as Larry Elders item above points out the CATO Institute comes to a completely different conclusion. But one terrible consequence of all of this is that the real estate tax rate in these neighborhoods become unmanageably regressive. One would think denizens of these neighborhoods would vote for Republicans and get those tax rates down.

To get that one, Duffy, who is African American, communicated with the appraiser strictly via email, stripped her home of all signs of her racial and cultural identity and had the white husband of a friend stand in for her during the appraiser's visit.

The home's new value: $259,000.

If you want to do a test for ONE variable, she messed up. She cleans out her closets, who knows how much junk she tossed. Real Estate agents call that staging.

So watch her whine when she closes her "loan" and watches her property taxes double. lol.

I cannot help the fact that you've been brainwashed, Gus.

You didn't give me any evidence, Gus.

OH! You thought that WAS evidence!?!?

Wow...there are no words...

If you follow the link provided by Gus, on the left hand side of the page there is an option to download a copy of the report. The report is consistent and the figures presented support the conclusion of the report.

I'd want to see their source data, but then I'm a professional stats nerd and statistician.

I wonder if your handwaving away of really good statistical evidence is because you don't like the conclusion? Or is it because you don't understand the data? Or did you simply not see that you can download a copy of the report?

Central Planning systemic racism.

Jimmah Carter launched the CRA and what it does is give lending advantages to black and poor communities. It rewards people with poor financial practices. Bad credit etc.

I am very familiar with it. (My company shared an office building with the FDIC during their sweep in the 80's to shutter banks burdened with non performing assets. ) In the hall ways and common areas we had many bank discussions. Many FDIC workers were officers of banks they had closed)

Positive reinforcement for negative behavior.

One of the virtue goals was for bank roll ups to acquire rural banks and be expected to continue banking there instead of taking cash and using it for more acquisitions)
Racist malfunction and another deal for "poor minorities" which hurt them in the long run.

Except for Thistle, none of you people follow this. This Dem debacle traces forward to the mortgage meltdown crisis where investment banks traded CDO's without running thru risk managers.
