Example of systemic racism

If you follow the link provided by Gus, on the left hand side of the page there is an option to download a copy of the report. The report is consistent and the figures presented support the conclusion of the report.

I'd want to see their source data, but then I'm a professional stats nerd and statistician.

I wonder if your handwaving away of really good statistical evidence is because you don't like the conclusion? Or is it because you don't understand the data? Or did you simply not see that you can download a copy of the report?
More handwaving from the other side of The Atrantic Ocean.

The lemonade stand 5 year old is a statistician.

But you can't calculate the compound population growth rate from Adam and Eve till present.

I cannot help the fact that you've been brainwashed, Gus.

You didn't give me any evidence, Gus.

OH! You thought that WAS evidence!?!?

Wow...there are no words...
Gus, obviously, provided good evidence for his position.

Sorry there wasn’t one of those crazy, conspiracy blogs right-wingers love.

I know a cowboy that calls African-Americans “brownies.”

You are uneducated, not me. It is obvious that you never made it past grade school, because you have no idea how to vet sources.

LOL, it's a catch 22. Denying there is systemic racism is in fact systemic racism. Weird, but true.
I don’t know if we can blame the housing appraisal system here. Is there really something in the regulations that say black people’s houses are worth less than white people’s houses? If so, that would be easy to find and change.

Were these 3 appraisers racist? Possibly.

Ya, it should be something like the same appraiser doing two black houses and one white house that were all comparable in value with the values being way off by that appraiser.

I'm not aware of evidence that the appraisal system is racist, even though it may be evident in many places. However, let's be clear on what systemic racism is:

The whole idea of systemic racism is that not everyone in a system need be racist for the system to be. That’s practically the definition of systemic racism. So, suppose only 10% of every police force is racist. . . .

[M]ost cops have zero racism, but [let's suppose that] 10% are full-on “let’s kill the n****rs” style racists. This could explain all the racial disparities in the data. But then everything those cops do is protected by 100% of the police force. As we saw with George Floyd: one officer committed the murder, while numerous officers did nothing about it; and the department even tried lying about what happened until video came out exposing them. That latter action need not be racist at all, it’s rather simply generic corruption: cops back each other with lies, report-faking, and intensive intra-group peer pressure no matter what crimes they commit against whoever, regardless of race or anything else . . . The effect, however, is to maintain a racist system: we get that 10% disparity in treatment of citizens by race from the whole system, and nothing is ever done about it. In this scenario, in every case, a whole police department is causing this disparity, even though only 10% of it is cognitively racist.

From here.

I don't really consider that as systematic racism. It's not really built into the "system".

Systematic racism is like this....After the Civil War when the slaves were freed the southern plantations needed workers.
The North passed certain laws to appease the south against the "negros" saying if you broke these laws you could be imprisoned and sent to a forced labor camp....plantation.
For example if a negro was found to be a vagrant or caught preaching they could be arrested and sent to a work camp plantation. I believe the article I learned that from said those systamatic racism laws went away in the 1940.

Currently systamatic racism is a ploy dropped on America to cause division...and it seems to be working somewhat.

From here.
What about black cops that are racist? It seems socially acceptable to blame white people for all evil, but there are plenty of black people in positions of power, and plenty of black people that think, and are encouraged to think, alol their problems are the fault of white people and a nebulous systemic racism.

also, as I mentioned before, I get grant applications regularly that specifically exclude white men.

I undrest and your position, it’s the same as all my friends. I’m just more inclined to see the promotion of the idea of systematic racism as an excuse for failure, or not even trying.

As an example, I’d use the murder rate. Are we going to blame systemic racism on why blacks are so much more likely to commit murder? Obviously there is something else going on. Something cultural. I don’t understand why there are separate white and black cultures in America at all. I also think the current conversation is making it worse.

You claim reepicheep is a cowboy? If you vetted your sources you would remember.

Systemic racism

England was the head quarters for slave traders and slavery.

When the white British abolished slavery, they paid off the slave owners whose "inventory" value had dropped.

I don't support that, either.

It seems socially acceptable to blame white people for all evil,
That's not what I'm doing, nor what Richard Carrier was doing in the scenario he wrote about that I posted.
but there are plenty of black people in positions of power, and plenty of black people that think, and are encouraged to think, alol their problems are the fault of white people and a nebulous systemic racism.
Nebulous? What part of what Carrier wrote about makes you think it's not real?
also, as I mentioned before, I get grant applications regularly that specifically exclude white men.
That's a whole different issue from whether systemic racism like Carrier brought up exists.

I undrest and your position, it’s the same as all my friends. I’m just more inclined to see the promotion of the idea of systematic racism as an excuse for failure, or not even trying.
I think it would be just as wrong to use systemic racism as an excuse for failure as it would be to deny that it exists.

As an example, I’d use the murder rate. Are we going to blame systemic racism on why blacks are so much more likely to commit murder?
I don't know, we'd have to take a deep dive into statistics, scenarios, etc. Before I knew anything about it, I'd keep open every possibility.

I just presented this episode to a good friend of mine. She has been a realtor for over forty years. According to her, this is a very common occurrence in real estate. She was not even remotely surprised. She said it also happens with home inspections as well.

Good inquiry. What's the source? Who gathered the data?

It's easy to find, which is why it's not evidence.

I like your response, TeabagSalad (ok...you're going to explain that handle for me at some point).

When you downloaded the report, were you convinced?
