This citation takes on new significance now that we have a poor vaccine track record to compare to the expectations originally set. The suggestion that the timing of the comments make them irrelevant to the circumstances at hand completely fails. Either Fauci was telling the truth or he was not. If the answer is Fauci was not telling the truth, then there's no reason to believe anything else he says. If he was telling the truth, then it's still the truth, and it seems all the more germain now that we have the bad track record to compare to the original expectations. The suggestion that these observations are not relevant is really the worst kind of engineered pragmatic spin imaginable.
