For Tertium Quid, something about Luther that....

People enjoy smearing people do not like to be called out. It is a political left winger trait.
Is the Thesaurus reference just another insult?

This board is about Luther. Who was famous for smearing Jews and anabaptists.
Have a read above with my link to Müntzer, he was an Anabaptist too.

This surprises me.

Luther was wrong about many things, but what he gave to world more than makes up for his flaws. He freed the world from the Catholic church who ran rough-shod over the people.

Let's look at this with a bit of perspective. The whole of Christianity were killing each other at the time. The 30 years war only highlights it.

As far as Anabaptists are concerned, you must remember that Luther was not that far away from his Catholic upbringing and training. I consider myself an Anabaptist, but I see Luther as a man God sent to correct the evil that is the Catholic Church. No human is ever 100% right or 100% wrong. We all have our blind spots.

It would be a good idea for you to read the Beggars All blog.

No, just a suggestion, since you seem so hung up on the word "smear" or one of its variants.

I know what this board is about. And you just proved my point about "smear."

Absolutely. I've been reading it for many years now. I used to listen to Chris Arntzen's radio program Iron Sharpens Iron. James Swan answered so many questions about Luther and the Jews.

It's a true blessing that God has provided us with such people that enrich our Christian walk. Speaking of such people, I'm a huge fan of Reverend Dr. Matthew Harrison. ✝️✝️

Excellent article.

Thank you!

I recently came across this series regarding the Amish Anabaptists. It covers many of different beliefs through research in Switzerland.

God Speed.
Thank you Beloved, I appreciate your reply. 🙂 Presently I don't have the time to look at your provided videos, but I do look forward to them. I'm curious how the Amish differ from the Mennonites whom I am firsthand familiar?

Blessings to you as well.

Luther has been accused as much from his work OTJATL. I've some Lutherans offer a defense of the work in light of Deut. 13. I've also heard Lutherans say the work is indefensible. So maybe, maybe not for me. Concerning the Anabaptists everyone was against them, that is; the Reformed, Lutherans and Riman Catholics. So yes I believe you have a gripe but maybe not smear unless you wish to acknowledge smear was the normative way in part to counter perceived falsehood.

Well as I recall, your assessment here is probably accurate. Oftentimes persons who disagreed with the poster were accused of being liberal, yet I know firsthand he is clearly wrong in that assertion.

It does address the Mennonites, but maybe not in the detail you might prefer. The video goes back to the Waldensians, Jan Hus, Zwingli. When you see them, I'd appreciate your feedback. I'm very interested in this part of Christian history.

One of my Pastors teaches church history and I enjoyed every minute of it. So many voices, so little time.

Sure, I once had more of an interest in church history but today I believe reckoning varied interests with time these days for the most part seems largely impossible. Of course I still feel that tug for theology sake, but when I am awake one thing is pretty certain, I'm exhausted.

Good. :) I like Dr. Matthews, too. I saw him at Lutheran conventions my husband and I went to, before he retired. He is a class act. Not afraid to admit when he was wrong and apologize.

Smear men that exposed a skalawag?
Just a reminder, Luther was dangerous. Very dangerous.

Yeah, so dangerous....

You remember that time when Luther promised Eck, who was in fear for his life, "safe passage" to and from Worms, only to try to murder him after he left?

Oh, that's right, that wasn't Eck, that was LUTHER who was in fear for his life, and almost murdered.

Remember what happened to Hus, a hundred years earlier?

If I remember my history correctly, his "goose" was cooked! ;)

And then as Martin was on his way to Worms, passing signs, "Luther: The Saxon Hus!"
Ah, yes, it was...until another "bird" came along, a "martin." :) That did NOT get "cooked".
