FreeAssangeDAO Mission
The primary mission of FreeAssangeDAO is to raise capital for the legal fees of Julian Assange. We are cypherpunks seeking to free Assange from the legacy justice system.
To achieve this goal, FreeAssangeDAO will gather funds to bid in the upcoming NFT auction of an artwork made in collaboration between Julian Assange and Pak.
FreeAssangeDAO first banded together on December 10th, 2021, the day that the U.S. government won its appeal of a British court ruling that barred Assange’s extradition to the US. Assange is facing up to 175 years in prison in US if found guilty of all charges. It is our beliefs that DAOs are a powerful coordination mechanism that cypherpunks can wield to free Assange.
Censored NFT Collection: Assange x Pak
Censored is an NFT collection in collaboration with Assange and renowned digital artist Pak that is set to be auctioned on February 7th 2022. The collection consists of a 1/1 dynamic NFT and a dynamic open edition in which anyone can participate.
FreeAssangeDAO aims to raise ETH to purchase the 1/1 dynamic NFT. Proceeds raised from the NFT sale will benefit the Assange Defense fund for legal fees and campaigning to raise awareness about the Julian extradition trial. We aim to form a dedicated community and network that can aid in the fight for the liberation of Julian Assange.
JuiceBox Raise & JUSTICE Token
Following the footsteps of ConstitutionDAO, FreeAssangeDAO will be raising ETH via JuiceBox in which each participate will donate ETH and in return receive a proportional share of a governance token, $JUSTICE. JuiceBox is a tried and tested platform for DAOs with a clear mission statement.
$JUSTICE will be the token that governs the FreeAssangeDAO. If the auction is won by the DAO the NFT will be held in a multi-sig. The community will decide via governance what to do with the NFT and the future roadmap of the DAO. If the DAO does not win the auction then all funds will be returned to the users via JuiceBox (minus gas fees).
Initially, as many other DAOs in the space, the DAOs governance mechanism will involve a Gnosis Safe multi-sig wallet with trusted individuals in the crypto space as signers. $JUSTICE holders will be able to vote on governance proposals via a snapshot governance page which will dictate the future direction of the DAO.
Final Remarks
Assange continues to suffer in Belmarsh prison and faces extradition to the United States. The DAO aims to ensure Assange has proper legal funding in perpetuity to fight the injustices imposed by the failing legal justice system.
