Gods Ten Commandments in The Old Testament and the 2 Greatest Commandments In The New Testament

One of the ways in which a person can measure themselves and their nation is by the obedience and disobedience we have towards God's commandment.

Please keep in my mind the following how a particular person said they did everything right but wealth had a hold on him

St Luke 18 19 -27

[19] And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
[20] Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
[21] And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
[22] Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
[23] And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
[24] And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
[25] For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
[26] And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
[27] And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

Below I will emphasize God's commandments that we in Jamaica (and other nations) have broken, in order to be able to identify the areas in our nation that we need to fix to get back on track. If we look on these commandments we will see as a nation we in Jamaica have broken most of God's commandment in a significant way.

In the bible Exodus Chapter 20 1-21

Idolatry #1

[1] And God spake all these words, saying,
[2] I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

[3] Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
[4] Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
[5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
[6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Idolatry is defined as

: the worship of a physical object as a god

: immoderate attachment or devotion to something

Matthew 6 verse 24

[24] No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Mammon is defined by Merriam Webster as

: material wealth or possessions especially as having a debasing influence

Taking the Lord's Name In Vain #2

[7] Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

What does it mean to take the Lord’s name in vain?

Keeping The Sabbath Day #3

[8] Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
[9] Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
[10] But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
[11] For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The sabbath is defined in Merriam Webster as

the seventh day of the week observed from Friday evening to Saturday evening as a day of rest and worship by Jews and some Christians

In terms of keeping the Sabbath please keep in mind the following Matthew Chapter 12 vs 1-14 how the Pharisees held fast to the Sabbath commandment but their heart was not right with Jesus Christ.

[1] At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
[2] But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
[3] But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
[4] How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
[5] Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
[6] But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
[7] But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
[8] For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day

Honor Your Mother and Father #4

[12] Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Honour is defined in Cambridge Dictionary as

great respect for someone, or the feeling of pride and pleasure resulting when respect is shown to you:

You Shall Not Kill #5

[13] Thou shalt not kill.

You shall Not Commit Adultery #6

[14] Thou shalt not commit adultery.

You Shall Not Steal #7

[15] Thou shalt not steal.

You Shall Not Bear False Witness #8

[16] Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

...False witness, or spreading a false report, is associated with being allied with the wicked (Exodus 23:1), willing to do violence to others (Psalm 27:12), and sowing discord among brothers (Proverbs 6:19). The Bible calls bearing false witness lying (Proverbs 14:5) and compares a man who bears false witness against his neighbor to a violent weapon (Proverbs 25:18). Lies harm people.

What does the Bible say about a false witness?

Do not covet, nor his servant, animal or anything belonging to your neighbor has # 9 and #10

[17] Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Covet is defined in Collins Dictionary as

If you covet something, you strongly want to have it for yourself.

Matthew 22 verse 36-40

[36] Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
[37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
[38] This is the first and great commandment.
[39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
[40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
