How Do We Decide Which Doctrines Are Truly Fundamental?

I would say you might want to ask God - He knows best

but one thought - Christ came to make people Whole

- not divided in their mind or life over this or that ...

that is not wholeness - but pieces - points of view ...

to say this, or that... though we might and might

need to - to begin with and for various reasons, but ...

eventually, if/as one grows in Christ - more becomes

clear... and not as the past - in sects, and choosing

of our own liking / dispositions / thinkings / figurings...

endless -- but not -- if we follow The Way -- to the end

of all these divisions of/ between ourselves - and Others

guessworks and parts of Truth - this way, and that - endless

debate by some and of ourselves - how to be, how to think

the future lies still ... waiting -- for us - the Truth is - more than...

The bible gives the example of the college of Apostles and the Council of Jerusalem with authority of the Holy Spirit, to determine such things.
The strongest words of condemnation used with the authority of the Holy Spirit in all of the NT are aimed specifically at false teachers who corrupt the Gospel, and It has been noted repeatedly on this Roman Catholic board. The Bible freely gives us a multitude of examples to use. The untainted Gospel message itself must be acknowledged as a primary point of fundamental doctrine.

Likewise Peter points out to believers concerning some of Pauls letters...

1 Pet 3 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

and why did you post that in reply?

Yes and Paul has strong words for the RCC, which teaches another gospel. Your institution breaks the commandments about adding to scripture etc. It teaches a false doctrine. Peter would not touch it, as it is the bad tree. You prove nothing and are unable to defend with your post, no surprise at all.

Way before Peter was even born, it was the psalmist who wrote, "the law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul." Ps. 19.7
That means that Holy Scripture is sufficient! Apart from the truths revealed to us in Scripture, there is no essential spiritual truth, no fundamental doctrine, nothing essential to soul-restoration. We do not need to look beyond the written Word of God for any essential doctrines. There is nothing necessary beyond what is recorded in God's Word.

Creeds are not our inspired source of truth or doctrine. And by 'catholic' they would have meant universal not roman.
The early creeds such as the Apostle's Creed, the Nicene Creed or the Athanasian Creed, were written more than a millennium before the first of your heretical Protestant sects began, so they are an expression of Catholic doctrine.

I'm not a protestant and my doctrines are in the bible. Yours aren't. And those creeds are catholic universal. Not catholic roman.

Come on, they don't matter. Will you never understand that Christianity started in the 16th century? What am I going to do with you??

So creeds have no purpose? What about mission statements? They also are not inspired sources of truth or doctrine, yet many (most?) churches feel the need to have one.
