How Should Christians Respond?

I have been reluctant to post on the political turmoil that is taking place right now but I feel that the time has come to shed some light on what Jesus said about this…

The focus of a Christian is Jesus and Him crucified, to expand the Kingdom of God, to show the love of Christ, to do the work of the ministry. This is why; Paul states in 2 Timothy 2:

Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the recruiter. Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.”

He then sums it up by saying: “Keep your attention on Jesus Christ as risen from the dead and descended from David.”

Why? Because God places those in leadership to achieve His own purpose and to fulfill scripture. “Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God.” (Romans 13:1) Now it is to note that this is not a blanket statement as some have tried to claim. We follow the laws of the government as long as they are not in opposition to God’s Word. If it becomes opposed to God’s Word, not only do we have permission but a duty to not obey. Our allegiance is first to Christ, not a nation. As long as that nation’s laws are in agreement with the Scriptures, we obey and live peaceably, when it does not, we do not obey. The proof of this is right in Scripture. If we were to blindly follow government laws irrespective of whether they line up with the Word of God, then Jesus, the Apostles, the Church, and the Old Testament Prophets were in sin because they all disobeyed the governing rulers. But our not submitting is not to riot and protest, it is simply to not submit.

This also does not mean that the one that is in office is “God’s man” simply because they agree with most of what we want. Nor does it mean that the one that was put in office is illegitimate because God’s will was to have a ruler that Christians agree with and His will was somehow usurped because our guy was not elected or placed in office. We have truly started adhering to a false doctrine of “Christian Nationalist” rather than being of Him. Have we dangerously made nationalism an idol, thinking our comfort is of God?

So, this last passage of Romans 13:1 says that God placed them there. That means it is to His end that He places rulers and those rulers are not always Godly or even good. They can be evil. Why? Because how the end will take place according to God’s Word will indeed take place.

Did Jesus not say in Mark 13:7-8: “When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don’t be alarmed; these things must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.”

Did He not say: “Then they will hand you over for persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of My name. Then many will take offense, betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:9-12) (This is a continuation of what was being said above in Mark 13.)

For the Church He said: “In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” (2 Timothy 3:12) Scripture explicitly states that we, who are His, WILL suffer persecution for living Godly and yet we seem to think that our comfort is God’s will for us in this country and anytime there is a challenge or chance that comfort is removed, we beg God, misquote the scripture for “Healing our land” and think our comfort and wealth equal Godliness. This idea is so much of a departure from Scripture that it is mind boggling that we Christians believe this.

The end WILL take place as He sovereignly has said it would. That being so, how should we respond to political turmoil? We focus on Intimacy with our Abba Father. We are to know Him and stay in peace and focus on the Kingdom rather than world.

Am I saying that we should not have a political opinion or that we should never state it? No, I am not saying that. In the pulpit we should not preach politics. We can preach Scripture and righteousness as it applies to when making a decision of who to vote for. But we are not political activist nor should we be perceived to be one. There is a big difference between being a political activist and speaking of righteous behavior and character. We should also vote for the one that more closely aligns with Scriptural character. We do not simply leave the truth of Scripture at the door when entering the voting booth to vote for the one who promises to give us the most stuff.

To conclude; As Christians we vote for who aligns with the Word of God but we proclaim the Word and righteousness, not a candidate. But we also remember that God installs those leaders that He will use to fulfill His Word and Scriptural end. Understanding that how the end takes place, it should not be a surprise to realize that good people are not always going to be placed in power. But we should take comfort that we are His and we live outside of these worldly concerns. We have His life in us, His peace and joy. Our focus is Him and to know Him.

I answered this on the Charismatic board, and you didn't respond...but I'll post it here, too, because this is my take for what little it is worth:

My response was simple. I remain fascinated by the prophets, and what they almost universally proclaimed. I will gladly hear the words, "It is not over!" despite the evidence to the contrary. I despise those who say, "The election revealed the Will of God," and so abortion on a whim, to the destruction of the child on the delivery bed, and the codification of depravity becomes the will of God. That is a lie.

As depravity becomes the law of the land, as it has, God's will is only revealed in His wrath. We have often asked if the US is even in the Bible, and today we know: We have become Romans 1, and we are turning God's wrath into law, that His anger be revealed to the world. Where Trump was a respite, and the only president of the United States for over a century to declare Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of the World, he became like Nebuchadnezzar before Daniel and the three.

Today we have Belshazzar, whose mind is so blistered he will not be able to read the handwriting on the wall, and whose connections are so corrupt, that the law is being written against those who acknowledge God as God.

How did the prophets get it wrong? I cannot say that they did...Jonah got it wrong because Nineveh got it right. Nahum got it right, because Nineveh did not repent. Are we seeing America in reverse? The call went out to acknowledge God as God...and to turn off the faucet of depravity that every computer connected to the internet has become. Was Trump a lifeline, not to grace and cogent wisdom, but to the hope of the promise that recognizing God will bring? Did we fail to stop entertaining ourselves to death for one hour as the media ruled the minds and the imaginations, hence the strongholds of this nation?

What do you think, Mikey?

I think we are seeing the fulfillment of God giving this country over to the depravity of their minds and desires. I also believe that there are so-called prophets, as declared of themselves, but are anything but. As this election cycle was going on, I heard the Lord say that Biden would win and this would be the beginnings of true persecution for the Church in America. He even gave me specifics in a vision of how that would take place (But that is another discussion). I do not consider myself a prophet and so I held the word from the Lord close to the vest, so to speak, because there were so many claiming that God was telling them quite the opposite. Both of us could not be right, and so I am acutely aware that it may be me. I usually don't pay attention to the famous "prophets" on TV but in this case, since I was getting something in opposition, I did. Apparently there are many false ones out there who attempted to somehow twist their wrong prophecy into somehow being correct. SMH.

I also think that we have many Christians who have been manipulated into being "Christian Nationalist" rather than of Christ. In that, many of these false perceptions were birth such as believing that Trump is God's man and that since he was not reelected somehow God's will was usurped. I think Trump was placed in position by God for the time he was there, but in no way do I think he was some sort of savior. (I believe all politician are corrupt and desire to get drunk on power). But as the Lord told us, the times will get more evil as the time of His return approaches.

I look back through the Scriptures and I see the teachings and warnings that are not popular with Christians here in the US. Promises such as persecution and even martyrdom. Yet here in the US, we only want to believe that God wants us happy, comfortable and rich. I believe many who claim to be Christians but are only for their sake, are about to have a very rude awakening, a sifting that has already started with the light issues of shutting down Church assemblies.

I guess what I think is that we have had so much comfort and wealth that we have supported those who claim to be His but in reality are selfish, self-centered and refuse to die. They have claimed to be of Christ but in reality it is the "blessing" that they chased and over recent years of voting, voted for who would help provide them the desires of their heart rather than put the righteous in places of power. Now the depravity of our desires are coming to fruition and those who simply claimed to be His are falling away.

Yet in all this, I believe the last and final awakening will take place. One that will be of Believers who will walk in the fullness of Christ. They will not pay attention to the ones espousing Cessationism and they will disregard denominational doctrines. They will only be full of Jesus and love Him and be loved by Him. This will take place in the midst of persecution and we will be called "Religious Fanatics," "Zealots," even "Domestic Terrorist" because we will not compromise the Truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Religious who are what is normally considered as "Christian" by the world will help in persecuting those who will not compromise. But in this, you will see the Glorious Church arise.

Thats what I think. 😁

This is a great read, Mikey. These times are concerning.

My discomfiture with the popular "prophetic word" is simple. I keep hearing "Peace! Peace!" where there is no peace. It makes me very uneasy. Those days where these words were uttered were accompanied by much violence and bloodshed...not by excessive pride, fullness of bread and abundance of binging on Netflix.

We're living in the days before the wake up call, where each virgin's wisdom is in her own hand, and her charge to purchase oil will soon be brought to account. This parable is the one most frustrating to me because if I have oil, and you have none, I will share knowing that there will always be more than enough...and the Lord clearly says, "No. Each is responsible for his own oil...and the light he brings to this wedding."

We have not been trained for leisure on the beach...but for the days ahead, where brother betrays brother to death! And we were told these things, not so that our hearts should fail us for fear...but that our joy might be full! Psalm 2, for the last four years, has given me an understanding of God's contempt for those nations who rail...I see God sitting on His throne and tweeting!

And yet, Trump is the sole world leader bold enough to declare Jesus as Lord. His Name has been expunged from all public discourse globally. That accounted as much to me, when he did that, not once but regularly.

And yet, I do believe that his advisors never quite reached the wisdom of Daniel, and there was failure in the outcome.

I agree that this message is missing. There is no way to side step the trial of our faith. And that trial is not a fight with the wifey over the TV remote...or the curl of the TP over top, or under the bottom.

I'm thinking we are each responsible for the discernment we exercise, and every word must be examined in light of scripture, and not in light of current circumstances.

And this is a good and clear hope...worthy of patience.

Thanks. This was great.
