There's a very good reason that you don't remember how these discussions went. While you may not be a left-winger you are certainly a liberal which I have no problem with. Unfortunately, the vast majority of liberals have taken the position that we have no enemies on the left. That's not true. The first people that will be lined up against the wall and shot are liberals when leftist take power. That is the classical application of Hegelin philosophy and ultimately it or something very similar always happens.
Now it is entirely possible that people are not shot in this particular instance but it's very likely that a social credit system will prevent them from interacting with the economy in any way shape or form, which will essentially get you to the same place. But seeing no enemies on your left, as it were, you have no reason or investment in remembering exactly how these conversations unfolded. After all if you did that would create problems for people on your left. So when you say you "don't remember," I'm quite sure you don't.

I'm not a virologist, and I know that you are, but the leftists who are driving the political agenda toward their hegemony over American culture aren't either. The distrust of the left and what they will do with power however it may be obtained from science, or any other discipline, is well founded.
If you suspect that I am over stating this concern you need to study the philosophy of Hagel because it explains everything that happened since he died. It explains Woodrow Wilson, Vladimir Lenin, the Nazis, and explains Stalin, it explains the Chinese cultural revolution, it explains Pol Pot. The philosophy of Hegel explains all of the millions, and hundreds of millions, and hundreds and hundreds of millions of people, who've been put to death, let die, or exposed to conditions that would ensure their death, in the last 150 years. A time which is absolutely unprecedented in the history of human brutality.

I have removed the link because it has been flagged as a website with malicious content. However one can find the true state of this research without relying on extreme RW spins. There was a grant from the National Science Foundation to UCLA to investigate the possibility of leveraging the chemical processes in certain plants to produce the equivalent of mRNA vaccines that could be produced and made available much more efficiently and safely than the current method. It is basic research, and applies to ANY mRNA technology, not just C-19. Knowledge is good.

I took a couple of minutes to look it up. The only new research I could find was a computer model that raised as many questions as answers. It doesn't look like it's a major area of research at the moment. Still, I can only find the published papers. There may be more work going on today.

The "malicious content" was reported by my anti-virus software which reported that the website tried to download to my computer actual malicious code. I was not referring to the visible content, which, other than being slanted, is not actually malicious. I just wanted to warn people to be careful in clicking on the link from a Windows desktop computer if you don't have a good solid anti-virus package that will intercept the malicious content.
