Is the Battle of Israel and Gog the next Big event of Bible Prophecy to occur? Why or why not?

Modern context, well yes, Ezekiel 38:8 After many days you will be mustered. In the latter years you will go against the land that is restored from war, the land whose people were gathered from many peoples upon the mountains of Israel, which had been a continual waste. Its people were brought out from the peoples and now dwell securely, all of them. 9You will advance, coming on like a storm. You will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your hordes, and many peoples with you.

This has been fulfilled in our day in a remarkable manner. The Gog battle in Revelation at the end of the 1000 years doesn't seem to match. Most people in Israel don't live behind city walls (ie Jerusalem is very large and the old wall is small in comparison), but they certainly have a strong defense.
The prophecy of Ezekiel 39:9-10 below is a "Historical War" fought long ago, having "Historical" wooden weapons of war, shields, bucklers, bows, arrows, handstaves, spears

To claim the weapons seen below are future would be a big falsehood, a fairy tale in the land of Lord of the Rings

Ezekiel 39:9-10KJV

9 And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:
10 So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire:
and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord God.

You're not seeing the forest for the trees. To begin with, Israel today is not a land of "villages"! It is a land of cities, large and small. During the MK, it will become "a land of unwalled villages". Carefully READ Ezekiel 38 and 39! Then ask yourself, is there ANY language in those chapters that is best understood in a modern context as opposed to Israel during the MK? And the answer is a resounding NO! I consider Gog-Magog as among the most thoroughly misunderstood prophecies in Scripture. Gog-Magog is the Day of the LORD!
No such thing as a Millennial Kingdom on this earth found in scripture, no place

Ezekiel 38 & 39 refers to an alliance of Northern peoples, formed to invade the holy Land, sometime during these latter days. Scholars differ as to who these peoples/nations are, but no reference is made to Israel’s present immediate neighbors – the Arab/ Islamic nations and entities, such as Hamas. The reason why they are not included in this alliance, is the fact that they will have already suffered an earlier massive defeat.

The passage in Ezekiel 38:11-13 describe Israel as:

1/ A people dwelling securely – not the case at present.

2/ A nation at peace – all of the nations surrounding are outright or potential enemies.

3/ Dwelling without walls – in modern terms: undefended borders.

4/ An extremely wealthy nation – not really true of Jewish Israel.

This shows that His people, righteous, faithful Christians; the Israelites of God, will be in the Land after this clearance.

Ezekiel 38 & 39 are both describing the same event, an attack upon Israel, by a leader known as Gog, from the ‘far reaches of the North’. He is mentioned again in Revelation 20:8-9 which uses Ezekiel’s prophecy to portray another, final attack against Israel. The result of this battle after the Millennium, is that all are destroyed by fire and Satan is finally judged. Some differences are:

1/ The first battle involves only a few nations, the last will be every nation.

2/ There is no mention of Satan in Ezekiel 38-39, but in Revelation, he is the primary character.

3/ The Ezekiel battle says the dead will be gathered and buried for 7 months. The armies at the end of the Millennium are cremated instantly, by fire from heaven.

4/ The battle in Ezekiel is used by God to display His power. In Revelation, Israel has been faithful to God for 1000 years. Those in Rev 20:7-10 who are rebellious are killed without any more opportunity for repentance.

Ezekiel 38:1-2 The Lord says to me, prophesy against Gog, in the land of Magog the King of Rosh, Mesech and Tubal. [places identified as within the Russian sphere]

Ezekiel 38:3-6 Say: I am against you, Gog, I shall lead you out – you and your whole army, fully equipped. With you will come the men of Persia [Iran], Cush and Put [Africa], Gomer [Turkey] and Beth Togarmah from the far reaches of the North.

Ezekiel 38:7-8 Be prepared, keep ready, for in future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations into the mountains of Israel – long desolate. The Israelites brought out from their dispersion now live in their Promised Land, in peace and security. [..just recovered from war’, must be the Psalms 83 attack, then, His people, Christian Israelites, gather and settle into Greater Israel. “Mountains of Israel” are Judea and Samaria currently inhabited by Palestinians. These two verses are clear proof that all 12 tribes of Israel plus those grafted in, will come back to the Land before the Return of Jesus.]

Ezekiel 38:9 You will advance like a storm, like a cloud covering the land.

Ezekiel 38:10-11 Your plan is to conquer these people, living quietly and undefended, You say: I will plunder and destroy these people, who have been gathered out of the nations, now becoming rich and living in the centre of the world.

Ezekiel 38:13 Other nations will ask: Is it for plunder that you have come?

Ezekiel 38:14-16 Therefore, says the Lord, when My people are living in their Land, undisturbed, will you not take notice of it? You will come and many nations with you, a mighty army. In the last days, I shall bring you against My Land, so that the nations may know Me, when I show My strength, at your expense.

Ezekiel 38:17-20 God says: When My servants prophesied, it was you Gog, that I will bring against Israel. On that Day, as you attack My people, in My anger, I swear that there will be a great earthquake in Israel.

Ezekiel 38:21-23 Universal terror will come upon Gog’s armies – they will fight each other. I will execute judgement on them with plagues and bloodshed, rain, hail, fire and brimstone will kill them. By this, I shall make Myself known to many nations. They will know that I am the Lord.

Ezekiel 39:1-2 The Lord God says: I am against you, Gog, I will take you from the North and bring you to Israel.

Ezekiel 39:3-8 I shall strike down your weapons, you and your allies will all fall in Israel. Wild beasts and birds will eat their fill of you. I shall send fire on your land of Magog and those who live undisturbed on the coasts and islands. Then they will know that I, the Lord, am holy in Israel. It is coming, it will happen, says the Lord.

Ezekiel 39:9-10 Those people living in Israel will gather the weapons to use for fuel, enough for seven years. They will plunder those who came to plunder them.

Ezekiel 39:11-16 When Gog’s army is dead, their place of burial will be the Valley of Abarim [now Wadi Mujib] east of the Dead Sea. The Israelites will take seven months to cleanse the land, they will carefully search for and bury all the remains.

Ezekiel 39:17-20 Call all the beasts and birds to this great sacrifice, they will be filled.

Ezekiel 39:21-24 I shall display My glory among the nations, they will see My judgement. Israel will know that I am their God and all will know that they were exiled for being unfaithful to Me. They were punished as they deserved, and I hid Myself.

Ezekiel 39:25-29 The Lord God says: Now I shall restore the fortunes of all Israel, they will forget their shame, when they live once more in their homeland, free from terror. My people will be a light to many nations. They will acknowledge that I am their Redeemer for they are all brought back from exile. No longer will I hide Myself from them, I who have poured out My spirit upon them.

The second chapter of Joel up to verse 28, is a sequence of events.

Verse 1- 11 is the Day of the Lord’s vengeance/ Middle East devastation/ Sixth Seal.

V 12-17 A call for the repentance of His people. V 18-19 They gather into the Land.

V 20 The Gog and Magog war. V 21-26 People of Zion, rejoice, I shall recompense you.

V 27 You will know that I am present in Israel and I am your God. This verse parallels Ezekiel 39:28 It is by His deeds that He is known, not by His presence, until His Return, after the Tribulation, therefore, all the above happens before that.

Joel 2:18-20 Then, the Lord showed His ardent love for His Land and was moved with compassion for His people. He answered their appeal and gave them food in plenty. I shall expose you to the danger of attack no longer. I shall remove the Northern peril [Gog and Magog] far from you, into the desert areas. The leading troops will be near the Dead Sea and the rearguard by the Mediterranean. Their rotting stench will rise up! The Lord has done great things!

The unwalled villages passage is certainly something I'm looking at. But, it is remarkable as to the return to Israel as a nation in our day.

So a map of the barriers around Israel seem to be mostly around the outside border and then some West Bank areas. So a lot of areas inside don't have barriers. I can see both sides of how to interpret it.

I don't know of a historical battle against Israel that even slightly matches this. This is likely prophetic language regarding weaponry. Here is another example of prophetic language, "Ezekiel 38:20 20The fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground.

There is no attack and consequent destruction of the attackers, as Ezekiel 37-38 describe, in any historical record. There is no graves yet in Wadi Abrim, East of the Dead sea.

What you fail to see is how the Lord will destroy all weapons of war at His next prophesied event; the Sixth Seal world wide disaster.
So when Gog and his vast army come against the people living in all of the holy Land, they will mostly have only ancient type weaponry.

The Coronal Mass Ejection, explosion of the sun, Isaiah 30:26, that the Lord will use on His great and terrible Day of vengeance and wrath, will destroy all electronic systems, cause weapons to explode, sink ships, crash aircraft, burn buildings and kill military personnel:

Amos 5:9 The Lord flashes forth destruction upon the strongholds of the powerful nations.

Zephaniah 1:16 A Day of battle cries against fortified cities.

Isaiah 30:25-30 ....on the Day of massacre, when fortresses fall….The Lord’s arm will descend in His fierce anger, with devouring flames of fire…..

Deuteronomy 32:22 For fire is kindled by My wrath, it burns to the realms of death below. [weapons stored underground] It devours the earth and its harvest and penetrates to the foundations of the mountains. [The electromagnetic pulse effect of huge coronal mass ejection.]

Jeremiah 25:32 Disaster spreads from nation to nation, [as the earth rotates] a mighty storm of military destruction comes.

Psalm 46:9 In all the world, He breaks the bow, snaps the spear and burns the shields in the fire.

Jeremiah 50:22-27 See how the hammer of the world is shattered. The Lord has opened His armoury, the weapons of His wrath to do His work in the land of the Babylonians. [the godless peoples] Put all warriors to the sword, lead them to slaughter, for their time has come.

Amos 2:14-16 ....the warrior will not save himself, on that Day they will all throw away their weapons and run, but they cannot escape.

Proverbs 12:12 The strongholds of the wicked crumble like clay.

Psalm 76:3 The Lord has broken the flashing arrows [nukes] and all weapons of war.

Ezekiel 7:14 The trumpet has sounded, but no one goes to war, for their actions have called forth My wrath. [An attack on Israel by the Islamic peoples. Psalms 83]

Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Isaiah 34:2 The Lord’s anger is against all the nations, His wrath is against their armed forces, they will be slaughtered, their dead will stink.

Hosea 10:13-14.....because you have trusted in your chariots and in the number of your warriors, destruction will arise against your people [Israel and the Western nations.] and all your fortresses will be overthrown. [military power destroyed]

Hosea 2:18..... I shall break the bow and sword, I shall sweep all weapons of war off the earth, so that My people may lie down without fear.

Haggai 2:21-22 I shall shake the heavens and the earth, shall overthrow the thrones of kings, break the power of the heathen realms, overturn chariots, horses and riders will fall. [armies] Fear will cause them to fight amongst themselves.

Micah 5:10-11 On that Day, I shall slaughter your horses and burn your chariots and raze your [military] fortifications to the ground.

Jeremiah 49:35 I shall break the bow of Elam, [Iran] the chief weapon of their might. [bow and arrows, military code names for nuclear weapons]

We have yet to get to the first seal, much less the sixth seal.
The first five Seals were opened when Jesus ascended to heaven in the first Century.
Proved by the many terrible wars, the shocking famines and the disastrous plagues the world has experienced since then. Those 'horsemen' are referred to in Zechariah 1:8-12 and 6:1-8
Then the Fifth Seal tells of the Christian martyrs since Stephen, whose souls have been kept under the Altar in heaven. They are still being added to.

The Sixth Seal Lord's Day of vengeance and wrath is next. This worldwide disaster will commence all the things prophesied which lead up to the glorious Return of Jesus for His Millennium reign.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't be so quick to rule out God using terms that Ezekiel would relate to. Burn pits were used extensively in Iraq and Afganistan in recent history.

which lead up to the glorious Return of Jesus for His Millennium reign.
When Jesus Returns Its (The End)

As scripture clearly teaches below in 1 Corinthinas 15:23-24 , when Jesus Christ returns then comes (The End)

Many disregard (Then Cometh The End) as they desire to see a mortal Millennial Kingdom on earth, after the coming of Jesus Christ

(Then Cometh The End) As (Death Is Swallowed Up In Victory)

afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, not a Millennial Kingdom on this earth as many falsely claim

(Then Cometh The End)

(Death Is Swallowed Up In Victory)

1 Corinthians 15:21-26 & 51-54KJV
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end,
when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

which lead up to the glorious Return of Jesus for His Millennium reign.
Many claim Jesus will literally return and rule "On This Earth" In A Millennium this being false, he warned his followers against this teaching, Jesus wont be found anywhere upon this earth as many claim

The Antichrist will be in Jerusalem, claiming to be Messiah Returned, "Beware"!

"Believe It Not" "Go Not Forth"

Matthew 24:23-27KJV
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Revelation 13:13-14KJV
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

Revelation 19:20KJV
20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Proved wrong by Revelation 20.
After a thousand years, THEN the final Judgment and Eternity.

24 Then cometh the end
, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

But your beliefs make scripture contradict itself.

There is a thousand year gap between 1 Cor 15: 23 and 24. Proved by Revelation 20.

1 Cor 15:50-56 is a prophecy about the GWT Judgment and then Eternity. Proved by how it is then that Death is no more. Rev 21:4

I came across a passage from Zechariah that seems to indicate that "unwalled" or "without walls" indicates safety and prosperity because Jerusalem did get a wall with Nehemiah and this yet prophecy of Zechariah was fulfilled.

"Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:" Zech 2:4
