John 1:29

"Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world".

A certain poster claims your sins are forgiven or taken away when you believe. Not all will believe so it seems not all sin is taken away or forgiven.

So much for unlimited atonement.

The atonement doesn't give faith, otherwise all would be saved immediately upon Christ's death. So not all sin will be forgiven because all won't believe.

The Verse just means that Christ's Attonement is for All; if they would just reach out for him because he is Near...

Theology is built upon All Scripture...

I don't see the word potential. Could you point it out? John 1:29
The word 'Potential' would be in our Systematic Theology; not the Verse. It would be Eisegesis to say the word is in the Verse; but there is no Eisegesis in Theology. All Scripture is Good for Doctrine. If anyone would reach out, he is near them. As Calvinists, we say that 'out of Enmity'; the Lost won't reach out. The word Enmity isn't in the Verse either; but it's in our Systematic Theology...

There is a danger in only Pretexting; that's what they do, right?

The world obviously did not have all their sins forgiven

One cannot be dead in sin and forgiven

It is only when one believes and repents that sins are forgiven

thus all have the option of having their sins forgiven should they believe

BTW you still do not understand unlimited atonement

it speaks of the extent of the atonement not the application of the atonement

it only notes Christ died for all not that all will have their sins forgiven

only those who believe do

So not all sins are taken away then. John 1:29 is not to be understood as all without exception.
