This Sunday, the Sunday of the Last Judgement, is the third Sunday of the 3-week period leading up to Great and Holy Lent. Today's Gospel reading focuses on the future judgement of all persons who will stand before the throne of God when Christ returns in His Glory.

Epistle Reading: 1 Corinthians 8:8-19;9:1-2

Gospel Reading: Matthew 25:31-46

Doxastikon of Matins (First Mode)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Let us go before, O brethren, and cleanse ourselves for the Queen of virtues; for behold she hath come bringing to us fortune of good deeds, quenching the uprisings of passion and reconciling the wicked to the Master. Let us welcome her, therefore, shouting to Christ God, O thou who arose from the dead, keep us uncondemned, who glorify Thee, O Thou who alone art sinless.

Kontakion (First Mode)

When Thou comest, O God, upon the earth with glory, the whole world will tremble. The river of fire will bring men before Thy judgment seat, the books will be opened and the secrets disclosed. Then deliver me from the unquenchable fire, and count me worthy to stand on Thy right hand, Judge most righteous.

Some verses from the Vespers service of Meatfare:

Today Christ tramples on death, for He is risen as He said!
Let us all sing this song, for He has granted joy to the world:
O Light unapproachable, O Fountain of life!
O Savior almighty, have mercy on us!

Where shall we sinners flee from Thee, Who art in all creation?
In heaven Thou dwellest!
In death Thou didst trample on death!
In the depths of the sea?
Even there is Thy hand, O Master!
To Thee we flee, and falling before Thee, we pray:
O Thou Who didst rise from the dead, have mercy on us

Having been crucified as Thou didst will,
By Thy burial Thou didst capture death, O Christ,
rising on the third day as God in glory,
granting the world unending life and great mercy.
