Juneteenth voted as federal holiday

Heading to Biden's desk. Overwhelming support in the House.

  • The legislation passed in the House 415-14 Wednesday evening, largely on a bipartisan basis
  • All those who voted against were Republicans.

Any good reasoning for it not to be a holiday?
Some states celebrate MLK Day as the birthday of Robert E Lee.

Same think might happen for this holiday.

Do I have to care?

I mean I pay little attention to nearly every other holy day.

I do really like Thanksgiving, it forces atheists to fake thankfulness. lol

Slavery was a product of the DEMOCRATS. It is the REPUBLICANS that ended it. Learn your American history correctly.
Not entirely. Slavery in this country goes back to the 1600's, long before this country existed and had political parties. Washington had slaves, and he wasn't a Democrat. He wasn't a member of any party, but he leaned more towards the agendas of the Federalist party than the Democratic-Republican party. However, by Lincoln's time, it was a product of Democrats and it did indeed take a Republican--one of the greatest if not the greatest presidents this country ever had--to end it.

Abraham Lincoln was a liberal progressive?

You ought to stick with your own socialist countries history.
Abraham Lincoln was a liberal.

Jefferson Davis was a conservative.
Conservative values
  • A preference for keeping things the same/minimizing change.
  • A preference for small government and/or minimal government involvement in the economy.
  • A preference for minimal federal government power; when possible, states should have more power to make their own decisions.
  • A preference for free market solutions

Actually, you have a point. A liberal wants to change something; a conservative wants things to stay the same, or change very little,, so my PolySci teacher in college told my class. And Lincoln DEFINITELY wanted to change something!

Yeah, also of note John Wilkes Booth believed Lincoln was going to overthrow the constitution and destroy the south. That's why he killed him.

Some people celebrate Washington's birthday and Lincoln's birthday.

Two great men.

MLK and Lee were both great men.
How was Lee a great man? He served as General of the Confederate Army in a treasonous attempt to topple the USA.
