Just add water....

There are some who post here that tell us all we have to do to be saved is....Just add water.

John 3 tells a lot. In John 3:16 Jesus tell Nickodemus...For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.".....I'm sure the readers here have that verse memorized. It should be noted that water baptism isn't mentioned in John 3:16....belief or faith is mentioned.

...In the verses prior to John 3:16 Jesus reaches back into the Old Testament and brings up a point concerning faith.

Here's what Jesus said..... John 3:14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.

As you know the Israelites in the desert ticked off God when they complained about the "manna"....a type of Christ who is the bread of life.
So God sent some fiery snakes...and whoever the snakes bit...they died.
So they went to Moses and asked him to take away the snakes....
Numbers 22: 8 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and mounted it on a pole. If anyone who was bitten looked at the bronze snake, he would live.
As we all know the bronze snake mounted on the pole was a type of Christ...the snake representing sin as Jesus became our sin. Both were placed on a cross. Both were lifted up...
This bronze snake event pointed towards the crucifixion of Jesus Christ....as I said it was a type of Christ. If anyone looked at the snake on the cross (pole) and believed God s word that healing would occur they would then be saved and would not die from the snake bite.
Just as the Israelites had to believe what God said concerning the bronze snake to be healed we must believe in what Jesus did on the cross to be saved.
....as with the looking at the bronze snake, which was a type of Christ...belief in Christ is all that is required to be saved and receive the gift of eternal life....in both instances in John 3 NO WATER BAPTISM IS MENTIONED. If water baptism was a requirement for salvation John 3:16 would have mentioned it....as well as the other verses that tell us that those who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:3) (Acts 2:21)
Keep in mind....Chjristians should be baptized. I've never argue that point.
