What an idiot made up word for the pope to use.
Transgression/transgressive is an existing word.
Jesus was transgressive. It cost Him His life.Yeah, transgressions is another word for breaking the law, lawlessness, sins.
And the Pope calls on young people to be transgressive?
Comparing the pope to Jesus is like comparing Satan to Jesus.Jesus was transgressive. It cost Him His life.
Jesus was transgressive. It cost Him His life.
I don't know, but his statement is harmless enough. What an idiot made up word for the pope to use.
Jesus was transgressive. It cost Him His life.
Really did He break the laws, was he violent, how was he transgessive? I mean what does the pope mean by telling a group of people to be transgessive, it sounds like a call for violence.Jesus was transgressive. It cost Him His life.
Totally agree. They are polar opposites.Comparing the pope to Jesus is like comparing Satan to Jesus.
RubbishJesus was transgressive. It cost Him His life.
Is it? Really?I don't know, but his statement is harmless enough.
I hate to say Pope Francis is right, but in this case, Pope Francis is right. He is basically saying that the young need to live their Faith.
Transgressive here is being used to mean be counter cultural. Young people grow up believing secular values and ideologies are 'the norm'. The Pope is calling them to realise that and don't stand for it. Transgress those norms.A definition of terms may be helpful here...
Oh so the RCC changing the meaning of the words. How do you know that the pope means, can you read his mind?Transgressive here is being used to mean be counter cultural. Young people grow up believing secular values and ideologies are 'the norm'. The Pope is calling them to realise that and don't stand for it. Transgress those norms.
Those RC priest have been extremely transgessive.Oh, well. I should have worked a little harder. Sorry. ?

While the denotation is correct, the connotation is totally different. The pope's speech writers (or translators) must get some vulgar style-checkers. (vulgar "of the people", hence, "Vulgate" ?) Unless he delights in being misunderstood, thereby destroying any hope of meaningful communication.

Or maybe we could be less insular creatures and expand on our vocabulary. I'm going to use transgressive where ever it's called for in future.Unless he delights in being misunderstood, thereby destroying any hope of meaningful communication.
Now, that would be transgressive! ?Or maybe we could be less insular creatures and expand on our vocabulary. I'm going to use transgressive where ever it's called for in future.
It's the way of the world though. Introducing terms into the lexicon is a way of re animating concepts for a new generation. For example English speakers had never heard of aggiornamento (bringing up to date) before Vatican II and Pope John XXIII, but now it's in all English dictionaries. Ther term 'virtue signalling' is another word that re animates a concept. I was just googling and found that Merriam Webster has recently added 370 such words to this years dictionary. Now, that would be transgressive! ?
But it does come down to whether you want to communicate with people, or display your erudition. Polysyllabic words in many cases will trip peoples' BS alarms and you will rapidly lose your audience. Remember that koine Greek was the vulgar tongue of the Roman world, and while there was a more refined form available, God saw fit to have His message written in a form most comprehensible to the majority of the hoi polloi.
