There is a new twist to this case. Gaetz had a friend named Joel Greenberg who may have been the one who provided evidence against Gaetz.
Greenberg was elected as a district tax collector in 2016.
When he took office in 2017 he hired 8 of the groomsmen from his wedding none of whom had relevant experience.
Greenberg used taxpayer money to buy guns, ammo, body armor and drones for his office and announced that tax agents would open carry.
He pretended to be police and stopped a woman for speeding.
He used taxpayer money for $65K computer servers to set up a personal business to run out of the tax office. He set up the servers himself, which caused a fire resulting in $7K in uninsured damage.
When law enforcement came to investigate they found he had multiple fake IDs that were created using ID information from people who had moved to FL and gotten new IDs from his office.
There are also some issues about sex trafficking and stalking.
