"But in every nation, he that feareth him [God the Father], and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him." Acts 10:35, God's personal Word thru Peter.

The context here is Gentile Cornelius being accepted by God unto Salvation thru Christ because he had a history of
"Fearing God," "giving alms," and "praying." These are works.

Start making the distinction between works of the death-dealing Law of Moses, designed to create and accentuate sin, and Free Will works pursued to honor God out of fear.

The rebellious Jews were doing their First Covenant Works not out of a fear of God, but out of a cause-effect legalism. These are the works which Paul cited as being of no effect, and the works Christ called hypocrisy.

Put on the Mind of Christ to understand this here, otherwise there will be ongoing strife. It could even be called a "key."

Eph 2:8-9 ... For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast ...

Rom 3:18 ... “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

How in the world did Cornelius come to fear God? Any ideas?

The Text does not say how he did. Pray about it, and get back to us.

The same question concerns Lydia, the Greek Syrophoenician Woman, David's Grandmother Ruth, Moses' Father in Law, and The Ethiopian in the Chariot.

Righteous Works Earn The Favor Of God?

That's a cart before the horse syndrome....

The Favor of God (His enabling grace) makes us to be made able to do Righteous Works. God's favor precedes works.

Doing righteous works is God's evidence that God has successfully worked in His righteousness by transformation..

No one can not earn the favor of God. If we could? Jesus did not have to die on the Cross.

Christ's work on the Cross 'earned' us our favored position to do God's will for our lives.. And, to do His will only by His enabling grace.
