Surviving Jaredite Names in Mesoamerica

Please remember that on this Mormonism forum he is not permitted to attack the Bible, according to the rules of this particular forum. You can see them by going to the top of this page, and tapping in the stickies.
To what rules/stickies are you referring? I've been posting on CARM, including this particular sub-forum, for over twenty years and I'm not aware of any such prohibition. That said, I take numerous sabbaticals, some of considerable duration, to focus on my academic pursuits and writing commitments so things could certainly change while I'm away for these stretches of time. What is meant by "attack the Bible" is rather vague... that this collection of texts has been corrupted is a fundamental tenet of LDS thought --- it is enshrined in the Book of Mormon (1 Nephi 13) and feeds into LDS justifications for both the so-called restoration and their unique scriptures, one of which (Book of Moses) even purports to be the first several chapters of Genesis restored to their pre-corrupted state and another (Book of Abraham) ostensibly reflects an even earlier version of its creation story. I cannot see how it would serve the stated purposes of this forum to silence LDS from "attacking the Bible", provided it is specific to what I've outlined above. These beliefs can and should be held up for examination and criticism...

Kind regards,
Jonathan

I am a former member so I am aware of this
Curious. Where do you stand religiously?
Many former Mormons go into atheism due to their disappointment / anger with Mormonism.

BTW Welcome to CARM Did you post here previously under a different user name?

They used to head the Mormon forums, but now they are not there.

Here are the general rules

Perhaps the admins are revising the forum specific rules. I do not know for sure, so I will not guess.

Hi John. No I was Fenuay when I was here before. I am Christian but have not found a church that I believe is correct. I was raised Episcopal and converted to Mormon when I was 17. I am still technically a member but since I don't believe I don't care if I am on some list that means nothing. I have made no effort to have my name removed. They do the proxy work for people regardless of their wishes or wishes of their family, so it wouldn't matter even if I was removed I would just have proxy work done for me after I was dead anyway. Kinda irritates me that they do that. BoJ says I think I have the right to tell others what to do. No, aim sharing my beliefs and opinions and not forcing them on any other soul. But yet the Mormons force proxy work on people. They say oh they have to choose to accept it. Maybe they don't want it to even be done. But they don't get a choice. Anyway I remember you were always friendly and knowledgeable. :). Nice to be back.

Thanks... the only reference to attacking the Bible I see is conjoined with Christianity and under a section about linking off-site (ie. to anti-Christian websites) with the clarification that LDS, for example, may link to their official websites. I stand by what I posted earlier that attempts to silence LDS from critiquing the Bible within the framework of their religion's perspective runs counter to the goals of this forum, which is to expose and counter such beliefs, and so I don't believe the former is the intent of the rule to which you linked. Enjoy the rest of your day, John.

Kind regards,
Jonathan

Thanks for the compliment!

If you are looking for Episcopal worship with a believer''s heart, try looking at Reformed Episcopal churches. they are a very small denomination, but have a large presence among Evangelicals. To them, " Reformed " means a description of their theology. Among seminarians, they are known as "the poor man's Westminster".

"Episcopal" means their style of worship. Their pastors use black academic gowns, and have nothing to do with the present-day Episcopal church.

Academically, they have a big foot print; two of their bishops were once presidents of Moody Bible Institute. They do not ordain women.

On the other end of the formal worship spectrum is the Christian and Missionary church. they are a church planting denomination. Here in the USA, there about 100 churches. they are an Acts 1:8 church, and teach that Jesus is the Savior, Sanctifier, Healer and Coming King. There are many innovations in their way they build churches overseas Look them up

Here is a link and a blurb from Wikipedia.

Christian and Missionary Alliance
The Christian and Missionary Alliance is an evangelical Protestant denomination within the holiness movement of Christianity. Founded by Rev. Albert Benjamin Simpson, an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, in 1887, the C&MA did not start off as a denomination, but rather began as two distinct parachurch organizations: the Christian Alliance, which focused on the pursuit and promotion of the Higher Christian life, and the Evangelical Missionary Alliance, which focused on mobilizing "consecrated" Christians in the work of foreign missionary efforts.
In the CMA, women may be ordained as official workers, but not as Pastors or Elders

Hope this helps you & the family.

I think there is another conservative Episcopal church in the US--the United Episcopal Church of North America, if memory serves me. it is NOT part of the Anglican Church, and is fairly conservative. Other very biblical and conservative churches are the LC-MS and Wisconsin Synod Lutheran churches. If you wish to know more about those, you could always go to the Lutheran board and ask questions there, since it would be off topic here.

I vaguely remember a Lishka here, but not a Fenuay. But I didn't start coming on here on a regular basis until Summer of 2012. :)
