The Irony Of It All

Are you getting your covenants mixed up?

I hope not.

King David was a big-time sinner, who didn't get away with anything.

God smote him with flesh corruption and heartache and marital problems all his life.

And yes, he repented and God forgave him; but he still had to endure hardships for his sins.

This does beg the question.... If there was already forgiveness practiced by God to the repentant, why was Jesus's sacrifice necessary?

Very good. You'll have no excuse should you stand before God unrepentant.
And if you repent, you won't need one.
Every crime - no matter how heinous - will be expunged because of what you believed in the instant of your death.

A just system, if ever there was one.

They are the wise ones. You need to remember, in your unregenerate state, your mind isn't functioning properly (Rom 1). You ought to read Romans 1, often, and consider its truth.
How can I consider the truth of Romans 1 if, as Romans 1 asserts, my mind is not functioning properly?

Indeed, how can I know that any conclusion that I reach about the Bible is correct, if my mind is not functioning properly?

Because there is power in God's word:

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must answer. (Heb 4:12-13)

But if my brain is not working properly, how can I evaluate what I'm reading?

1. I read Bible Passage X, and come away thinking that it is false.
2. I read Bible Passage X, and come away thinking that it is true.

How do I know which of these is the result of my mind functioning properly?

😄 Read the Hebrews 4 passage again.
1. I read Bible Passage X, and come away thinking that it is false.
2. I read Bible Passage X, and come away thinking that it is true.

How do I know which of these is the result of my mind functioning properly?
LOL. You're proving the truth of Romans 1 to me. To your criticisms of God, add a half hour of daily scripture reading. Commit to doing that daily, from now on. See what happens. The Spirit of God convicts the world of sin, both through conscience, and by the written word.

If you continue to the end of your life thinking what I am saying is false, we both know that will be resolved for you, and for me, at the moment of our respective death. Half hour a day, what have you got to lose?
