Hello fellow Lutherans.

I find these forums pretty interesting.

It must be strange being a Lutheran here. I haven't really tried to get into the Armenian vs Calvin debate... Haven't really gotten into the means of Grace...yet. For example...I feel like I'd start off with Calavinistic fans, but then that would ask questions and the Armenians would be patting me on the back, and I'd have to soon around and rebuke them for thinking I was like them...lol (doesn't sounds fun )

Do you fellows often find yourselves agreeing with someone and then a few post later they have left a similar theological path and dispose baptism, or have a wild idea of grace, or say Gods sovereign but then say they choose to be saved. And seem to mix good theology with, well... "This sounds better " or "gotta work the 3rd baptism in here somehow"

I am guessing this is just due to having a pretty solid Theological base (seems most Lutherans do weird)

Would it be fair to say that a large majority of members on this forum fall into the Charismatic movement?

I find Charismatics very flimsy on theological thought and ability when "making cases" and very wishful in their interpretation....almost as if no one has ever taught them how to read the Bible.

Now... I often find Baptist and Pentecostals (charismatics IMO) claim it's corrupting to read the Bible, and then maybe some Luther, or Gerhard....and get their takes on scripture. This is the worst thing you could do. Where does this idea come from? Why is it so abhorrent to appreciate Augustine, Ignatius, Luther, Melancthon etc... Thoughts on scripture or to seek clarifications from your own possible confusion in the BOC.

I think it is just a poor excuse to not engage. "You worship and follow a man is you read such and such"

Thoughts?

You do seem to know some odd ducks! 😉
As to Arm/Cal, my opinion is that if it hasn't been figured out in some 500 years, chances are good we aren't going to do so any time soon. 🙂

Re. Pentecostals and Charismatics, the Charis are the "new kids on the block" by about 60 years.

I think that Baptists and Pentecostals forego reading other folks' comments /teachings on the Bible from a love of the Bible itself, and a concern that they might be misled by fallible men. The validity of such a belief is open to discussion...

Not at all, IMHO. The only "Pente-matic" forum getting much activity is WoF, and quite a few there are non-Pentecostal. To make it more confusing, the people who claim to be WoF are pretty much against the "big noises' " nonsense! 🤪 Then there's the KJVO, and RC forums...

Again, these are my opinions, and I'm sticking to them until I change my mind! 😁

As we all do - BUT that points out the difference between BELIEF, and FAITH nicely.

Belief is only valid until "something better" comes along.

FAITH, on the other hand has SUBSTANCE, and is an EVIDENCE of what you don't see.

Belief "hopes", but FAITH KNOWS.

Conservative Lutherans are not usually Charismatics. I have never known any on here, or in my life.

I think what you are describing is a result of a fundamental difference in our undertanding of the Gospel in the narrow sense, that is, what God has done and in the person and work of Christ to and for all men.

Once a person understands that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is objective true good news to and for all men that person has a different understanding and perspective than those that don't. It is a fundamental difference with far reaching consequences since it is a key the Holy Spirit uses to open minds to understand the Scriptures.

For example, a person is free to just read and receive Scripture according to its God given perfect immediate context. In that case the law, which is common to all men, is the law. So the law is read in its full force as there is no perceived need or desire to modify or lessen it according to some alien context or theory.

An obvious example of how this all works out is our view with regard to the Reformed intramural debate over limited atonement, election, etc. The question of limited atonement is categorically excluded along with the more common explanations of election, etc., in that debate.

I have no idea of the specific backgrounds of the posters, but I will say the tenor of the posts has improved over the years. From my perspective, the most noticable advance in that regard has been since the virus.
