The reason: US Christians <---> ******

There's been a ton of theorizing about why Christians in America are overwhelmingly support a remarkably unChristian president. I'm going to add to it:

Epistemology.

The technique for supporting a belief in something which can't be shown to be true - is exactly the same as the technique for supporting on obviously incompetent / dangerous politician. The person has to surround themselves only with people and information which reiterates the mantras, and reject everything which doesn't.

Call it tribalism if you want, but there's more to it. Reiterating ideas about sin and salvation helps keep those ideas alive, in the forefront of the believer's head. Reiterating the idea of our current so-called president draining the swamp keeps him in that same place. Claiming God hears and answers prayers eventually makes the idea seem more correct than it sounds; claiming ****** is going to make America great again does the exact same thing. A tribe isn't needed for either of those two things, but when you mix the two, it's a powerful combination.

Epistemology is roughly defined as the method used to determine what exists (or what is true).

Mantra is how Christians maintain their belief, and how ****** maintains his support. Saying something often enough until you believe it. Truth is created rather than revealed, which is seen in many Christians' consumption of fake news.

Hi ES. I used to post here under the names ObjectivelyMoral, America and (way back in the day) Whateverman. It's funny to me that my old banned account.

So why do leftists adore a pro-abortion phony Catholic?
So why do leftists praise sexual predator Biden and his tramp VP candidate?

Is that the reason during the last election
it was said by her campaign chief
"Just put it on facebook; they will believe anything we tell them"

so much for what they think of their voter base

So you're EDIT to spell "Trump" correctly, but I'm supposed to take your analysis of him seriously?

The funny thing is, this inbred moron criticizes people for voting for an "Unchristian" candidate, even though Trump is no more or less a sinner than any other man, but would congratulate us for voting for pro-abortion, pro-sodomite, pro-socialism, pro-little girl groping, pro-crack smoking son, Joe Biden.

And have you ever noticed that anytime a Christian brings up anything to do with Christianity, they're the first ones to cry "separation of church and state", and yet, now, he wants us to violate the separation of church and state, by imposing a religious test on our candidates? His mother and her brother should never have decided to have children.

Creepy Joe pretty much pukes on teachings of his Catholic religion.

Same with Kamalala when she was outraged about Justice Kavanaugh and his church commitment.

I don't think I fully understand your argument. By the nature of the "epistemology" you attribute to Christians, it could be used to support voting for either Biden or Trump.

IOW, the epistemology you describe is: "The person has to surround themselves only with people and information which reiterates the mantras, and reject everything which doesn't." Okay, an unthinking person who surrounds themselves with pro-Trump mantras will vote Trump. Same goes for Biden, though - someone who surrounds themselves with pro-Biden mantras will vote Biden if they don't do any thinking of their own.

So, I'm not seeing how this explanation is actually predictive of a Trump vote rather than a Biden vote. Could you clear that up?

Sure thing.

Biden voters generally do not do this to the degree a Trump voter does. They may partake of entertainment (or even blatantly-biased) journalism on occasion, but their understanding of the facts isn't limited to that partisan narrative. They're capable of learning from their own errors in judgement/understanding. Trump voters are not. The goal is to maintain the mantra, so information which does not do this isn't absorbed at all; it's rejected, independent of whether they're rejecting facts or not.

Not all Christians do this, but an awful lot do. That's where religious faith plays its central role for them, and it's equivalent to support for the current white house occupant. Belief even in the face of contravening data, making no attempt to understand or investigate that data.

Look around that the voters who voted for Biden. They're a diverse group, being made up of Republicans and Progressives and Democrats and Independents (and others). As monolithic groups, they each look to different authorities and have somewhat different worldviews. If Biden is inaugurated (and I have no reason to think he wont be), he's gonna face a mass of supporters who all want different things from him.

By contrast, the only thing Trump supporters want is what he wants. They say what he wants them to say, and trust whomever he thinks they should trust.

There are obviously exceptions to this characterization of his supporters, but it appears to generally hold true. They all read the same media, and regurgitate the same talking points. Christianity in American - in general - yields the same kind of people, though admittedly this similarity increases as the believer gets closer to being a fundamentalist.

For ME, since the election is really only about choosing the "Cleaner End" of the TURD, and given the statements made by the Democratic representatives, preferring the Republican side is an easy choice. I didn't vote FOR anybody, I voted AGAINST the WORST of the two choices in the only way the system affords to do that.

No, the funny thing is that conservative Christians show themselves to be hypocrites in their support for ******. Fundamentalists/evangelical types love to harp on the moral character of candidates they don't like... yet when it comes to the demonstrably horrible moral character of a candidate they do like (******), suddenly morality no longer has anything to do with the fitness of the candidate to hold office. Another tactic is that they start spewing comments about everyone being a "sinner" and needs to be not judged for their previous behavior (yet they don't apply that principle to candidates they don't like).

****** makes a mockery of evangelical Christianity. Yet evangelicals rabidly support him. Just shows the hypocrisy of evangelicals.

My theory is that Evangelical Christians are constantly reinventing their religion. In my lifetime I’ve seen the character of Jesus go from being a racist redneck to a hippy, to a Raegan Republican, to a supply-side libertarian, to a nationalist Trump cultist.

Politics have always come first and they interpret their religion through that lens. I don’t expect any kind of consistency or logic from them.
