The true meaning of 1 Peter 1:10-11 and also 1 Corinthians 10:1-4.

The first thing that I would like to draw your attention to, is that both of these passages are speaking of the revelation of Jesus that was given in advance of his coming.

So let's have another look at these two passages.

1 Peter 1:10-11 New International Version

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow.

It cannot be any plainer that in the above passage, the Spirit was giving a revelation unto the prophets before hand or in advance of Christ and his sufferings and the glories that were to come because of it.

Therefore the Spirit of Christ must be understood in light of this as the Holy Spirit revealing Christ in advance of his coming and not speaking of the spirit of Jesus in the sense of the spirit of his own personal ontology or of any preexisting sense at all.

Now let's look at this other passage from 1 Corinthians 10:1-4, for it is also referring to the Rock as Christ in reference to the revelation of Christ Jesus given unto the children of Israel in the wilderness and in advance of his coming and through the various different figures and symbols that they received by the Spirit and a few of which Paul also mentioned as well.

So let's have another look at that passage again also.

1 Corinthians 10:1-4 New International Version

10 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. 2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3 They all ate the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.

So then we see also in this passage that The Spiritual Rock that accompanied them was also here like in 1 Peter 1:10-11, speaking of the Revelation of Jesus and this time given to them by the various different symbols of Christ that they received the Spirit while in the wilderness.

All of these symbols used to reveal Jesus Christ unto Israel started of course with the pass over and then their deliverance from Egypt and the rock with the living water coming out of it and the manna and the serpent on a pole that was also lifted up to represent Jesus dying on the cross.

When it says that they all drank and ate of it, it is referring to the revelation given unto them in those symbols of Christ in advance of his coming.

In this manor they received from the same Rock of Revelation in advance of the coming of Christ, as Peter did also in Matthew 16:13-19 after Jesus had already come and was still with his disciples and notice here also, that the Rock is referring to the revelation of Christ that Jesus said that he would build his true church upon.

Therefore neither of these two passage prove a pre existence of Christ at all period.
