Trump to start acting like he's won a second term

This fun story comes from a piece in Politico.

Trump and his aides have settled on a plan for him to take full advantage of his existing perch at the White House to look as presidential as possible, according to three people briefed on the strategy. He may fire a few Cabinet members and top aides, including FBI Director Christopher Wray and Defense Secretary Mark Esper. He could sign a slew of base-pleasing executive orders. He might even resume his travel schedule.

Ah yes, nothing is more presidential than lashing out in frustration at people just doing their jobs. Maybe he thinks he can bamboozle the American people into forgetting who won the election, but if he ends up losing (and it looks all but certain that he will), I'm sure the Secret Service will have no problem packing his bags and escorting him off the premises of the White House on January 20 should he refuse to concede.

President Trump is President today. How do you observe his behavior January 23, 2024?

You mean he plans to start acting like a president for the first time, now that he is a lame duck. Not much sign of that yet, but we can all hope.

I don't think there's any chance that a shabby, vulgar con-man like Trump has any clue how a president is supposed to act. He's made it abundantly clear that he won't lift a finger to do anything unless it provides direct benefits to himself. But he will no doubt continue to fool the people he's been fooling all along. And, of course, he hopes to keep the con going once he's out of office. Those hundreds of millions of dollars he'll need to pay off his debts have to come from somewhere.

No, he'll be in jail once he gets extradited from Scotland.

This, from you? How bout worrying about how you are to act?

Garbage. I think part ot the reason you all are so outrgaged is Trump cut off all the federal largess to Democrat hotspots where they mishandle money due to incompetence.
But he will no doubt continue to fool the people he's been fooling all along.
Oh yeah. This is coming from an apologist for cheaters. If you don't know a swindle then that says more about you then it does about us.

It is proper, rational, and healthy to have a strong disregard for grifters and con-men, particularly when it comes to the integrity of our democracy. We have repeatedly detailed the ways in which Trump has fallen far short of his duties as president (let alone as a decent human being). You can put your fingers in your ears and mischaracterize staunch opposition to the corruption and chaos that has been steadily emanating from the White House these past four years, but those reasons aren't going to magically disappear.

Garbage. I think part ot the reason you all are so outrgaged is Trump cut off all the federal largess to Democrat hotspots where they mishandle money due to incompetence.

I recall when Trump took the opportunity to bash California at a Pennsylvania rally during the epidemic of fires in that state, threatening to withhold funds in dealing with the disaster. Petty insults directed at Americans who are in desperate need of federal assistance: that's the sort of man Trump is. This was particularly visceral for me, because my parents' home was in one of the threatened areas. My mom and dad have voted Republican for decades, but I doubt they voted for Trump after that display.

Oh yeah. This is coming from an apologist for cheaters. If you don't know a swindle then that says more about you then it does about us.

One of the most satisfying aspects of Biden's win is that we will not have to put up with the entitled arrogance of Trump's supporters for the next four years. If there has been cheating, then let the Trump legal team prove it in court. If he can't do it, then his claims are utterly without merit. And it is quite clear at this point that Trump is not serious about disputing the election, because he doesn't have a coherent legal strategy. All he is trying to do is create an environment of doubt so that he can claim he didn't actually lose the election. He'll nurture his own sort of Dolchstoßlegende so that he can fleece his followers for years to come.

Well i would imagine his finances are really none of your business. Worry about your own.
No. The president owing hundreds of millions of dollars is a matter of national security and thus a public concern. That's why his failure to release his tax returns was of such critical importance. Soon-to-be-president-elect Biden will have much to do once he is in office. For starters, he's going to have to get to work cleaning up the awful mess left by his predecessor, as did Obama in 2008. But I hope he finds time to push for legislation mandating the release of tax information from all presidential candidates. In fact, there are many democratic norms we now apparently have to write into the law since the GOP has shown no interest in repudiating and restraining unethical conduct on the part of the president.

No you have not and all you have demonstrated is your irrational hate for Trump and your willingness to cheat.

That could have been handled so don't blame Trump for Dem incompetence.
Petty insults directed at Americans who are in desperate need of federal assistance: that's the sort of man Trump is.
The Dems are incompetent and ignore federal law and then expect the Feds to pay for their incompetence. If the locals keep voting these losers in then they get what they get.

Yeah you probably won't since the Dem red army will be on the march signaling out Trump supporters to punish and the law will look the other way. Not only that the law will arrest any Repub which resists.

Your post boils down to the following: Nu huh. So there! Your childishly empty response isn't worth my time, except to point out that your answer to the fear I reported my family had experienced in the face of the California wildfires was completely ill-mannered and nasty. It's the sort of thing I would expect from a coward hiding behind the anonymity of the internet, and it reveals something profoundly negative about your character.

Well i am just not seeing how you can blame Trump for the situation with your parent's house? Where did you get the idea the feds owe anything? Anyways i will give your negative and unwelcome assessment all the attention it deserves and you are also hiding behind the net. I understand you guys are angry malcontents who think others here owe you something and the sea will part and Joe Biden will march into the white house on dry land in January. Military in tow to drag Trump out of the white house. Methinks you will have another thing coming in January.

You leftist a-holes cheated an election and now America will burn on account of it. Your little coup will not be bloodless. You dirty scoundrels on the left, may you all reap what you sow.

My plan would be to refuse him entry. We don't want the UK to become known as a haven for failed despots and their ill-gotten gains.
The British are a war mongering, spiteful and hate filled people, it's why we booted you out. One could say your evil has spread throughout the whole earth, because it has. I think you have one or two countries on the earth you haven't poisoned yet.

Did you read my post or not? I wrote that Trump mocked Californians at a Pennsylvania rally and threatened to punish the state by withholding urgently needed federal aid to fight the wildfires. Because that's the kind of man that Trump is.

And you seem to have a seriously warped perception of the role of the federal government. The president has the duty and obligation to respond in good faith to aid requests from the states in the event of natural disasters. The government belongs to the people. It is not a subsidiary of the Trump Organization.

Anyways i will give your negative and unwelcome assessment all the attention it deserves and you are also hiding behind the net.

When I took my first university job years ago I resolved to never put anything in an email or on the web that I would need to worry about becoming public later. I don't need to worry about hiding because I haven't written a thing on these forums of which I need to be ashamed. You should try it.

I understand you guys are angry malcontents who think others here owe you something and the sea will part and Joe Biden will march into the white house on dry land in January. Military in tow to drag Trump out of the white house. Methinks you will have another thing coming in January.

Will you try and get some perspective?

Trump is a deeply vulgar, amoral man who cares not a whit about the democratic norms in our country, let alone the law if he can get away with it. He is a quite clearly a malignant narcissist who delights in mocking his opponents and whines like a spoiled child in the face of legitimate criticism. He lies about everything, even things which are manifestly false, such as the size of his inauguration crowd in 2017 or the magnitude of his electoral college victory in 2016. He has openly admitted that he bashes the press to “demean” and “discredit” reporters so that the public will not believe “negative stories” about him. He routinely deployed the ecumenical symbols of the Republic as political totems in his reelection campaign. For Pete's sake, he paid a porn star for sex when his wife was pregnant with their child and then very likely broke the law by not reporting the payoff.

It is not irrational to take a deeply contemptuous view of such a man.

And my guess is that Trump would never allow himself to be humiliated by being dragged out of the White House. No, he'll be gone by January 20, but not before he thoroughly disgraces himself and damages the integrity of our democracy by dishonestly claiming the election was stolen from him.

The only thing we owe each other on these forums is the willingness to engage others in good faith and to be honest. That's all anyone expects, and it isn't too much to ask.

You leftist a-holes cheated an election and now America will burn on account of it. Your little coup will not be bloodless. You dirty scoundrels on the left, may you all reap what you sow.

Winning a free and fair election is the exact opposite of a coup. And if you don't think the election was fair, then present persuasive evidence to support the claim. You have constantly implied that anyone who opposes Trump is doing so out of irrational hatred. Have you ever considered that it might, in fact, be your side in this debate that reflexively engages in prejudicial wish-thinking when the political narrative is not to your liking?

Imagine that the tables were turned and Trump was the one with the upper hand in the final vote tabulations. If the Biden campaign started claiming loudly and vigorously that Trump had stolen the election, wouldn't you demand clear evidence to support the claim? Would you be satisfied with Youtube videos and unsubstantiated claims from hyper-partisans that are consistently revealed to be false or wildly exaggerated? And if there actually were widespread fraud, wouldn't it be a simple matter to demonstrate this in court?

"Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest, with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide." Lincoln

Lincoln would never have undermined our democracy by denigrating the results of a free and fair American election as an assault on liberty. Engage in some meaningful introspection and think about what I wrote above.

Do you think Californians are entitled to my tax dollars?

The real irony here is that California is by far the largest contributor to US GDP and pays more in taxes than it receives in federal spending. But that misses the larger point.

Your question is illustrative of the poison Trump has introduced into our politics. Since when is it appropriate for a sitting president to threaten the withholding of federal aid over petty politics or on the basis of whom that state awarded its electoral votes? Since when is it decorous for a president to mock the citizens of that state in the midst of a natural disaster? Did you ask the same question of folks along the Gulf Coast in the wake of hurricane season? Do you think it would be proper if Biden vindictively threatened to deny aid to any state in the midst of a disaster which he viewed as overly friendly to Trump?

The federal government doesn't belong to the Trump Organization and its supporters. It belongs to the American people. Don't they teach civics in high school anymore?

Because that's the kind of man that Trump is.

Well i am not the one advocating for violation of federal immigration law and then expecting aid from the Feds when things go south due to Dem incompetence. Ca has a history of fires and they need to do maintenance. If they let things go then nature will creep in and claim back what nature lost. It is called entropy. And fire is perfectly natural in conditions involving dry and accumulation of dead wood lying all over.

Well, i heard Anderson Cooper refer to Trump as a fat turtle. It is so old and so much the leftist vitriol against Trump has practically become normalized. You see the left are regressive, lesser evolved neanderthals who will sling feces if they could and probably will someday if they keep going down that same regressive path to their natural atavistic state.

We don't believe the press for good reason. They do amplify lies about Trump. They have been doing it for years. They stir up hatred and revolt in part to sell their goods. They are for-profit and vilifying Trump is good for business. The press shining example of vulture capitalists.

. For Pete's sake, he paid a porn star for sex when his wife was pregnant with their child and then very likely broke the law by not reporting the payoff.
Well, that is all old news and not credible anymore than the pee dossier. I don't think he is banging underage girls, Chinese no less in other countries or whatever. What are the Chinese to think of Biden's when they do these things and daddy knows? They probably think we are filthy animals thanks to the Bidens. Lowlifes and stupid.
And my guess is that Trump would never allow himself to be humiliated by being dragged out of the White House.
