Thinking Putin can be easily talked down from his ledge is irrational.

The central facts are: Putin invaded a sovereign country without provocation or legitimate cause and has been targeting civilians and destroying the infrastructure of that nation, along with a long list of atrocities.
Zelensky is fighting to maintain the independence of his country and to prevent Putin from erasing its culture, history and language.

There is no way to equate the actions and goals of those two men.

I don't care for either Russia or Ukraine, only partisan hacks virtue signal their faux luv for Ukraine.

Exactly the opposite! Russia had no imperial plans to take over the former Warsaw Pact. Russia obviously didn't want to swallow Ukraine or they certainly would not have invaded with 200,000 troops. When Hitler invaded Poland he invaded with 2 million troops. Obviously Putin was trying to get our attention and I'm sure is quite mystified by the fact that we didn't manage to get to the negotiating table. Now he understands this is a real war and he is gearing up his military to be on real war, war footing, for the first time since the Cold War. We literally have created a monster where one did not exist!

Russia sees this Ukraine NATO thing as an existential threat, and he now fully understands that there is nobody with two brain cells to rub together in the US foreign policy apparatus, so yeah he's gonna fight and he's right there and we're not, so the smart money is on him.

This whole policy has been an unmitigated disaster. And it's only getting worse. I suppose one could theorize that we would spend enough money to actually defeat Russia in their own backyard, that might be possible on some theoretical basis. It's hard to see how we could do that without collapsing the economy, the dollar, and destroying the dollar as the reserve currency. Of course we may have already accomplished that with our missteps in this Ukraine policy so far.
