What do you think of this thing I heard a priest say once?

Someone was complaining about bad things going on in his life and wasn't too happy w/ God

and the priest said, rather emphatically

God doesn't owe us anything!

Frankly, I disagree. God put us here.. Don't u think it is mean (among other things) for someone to... place someone somewhere without his or her permission or consent and then... abandon the person to whatever may befall him or her? And of course, there are many things that can befall one in this crazy, antiChrist world

just sayin...

this may be the wrong forum for that question:

Who is "us"?
humankind: believers?

We could make the same argument with regards to a world without God as well, but that claim doesn't really stand up if God doesn't exist. In other words, given that the world is so merciless, and uncaring, we might just as well point out how evil the world really is.

It's really only people who can appreciate this so the problem goes away when the people go away.

most people do live as if He doesn't exist. they don't know Him. that inludes catholics.

The problem here is the priest represents Jesus.

He owes us a just punishment for every sin we have ever committed:
It is an unearned /unmerited gift that any are saved
well, then, why didn't the priest mention this Gift instead of... for one, acting like he knew thiss person when he didn't... the person was following Christ actually fairly well

I'm laughing... not sure why

do u mean Jesus wouldn't say something like that?

seems He wouldn't
Jesus had empathy. The real meaning means He was moved and it affected Him in His guts. I think Jesus knew how to say things that healed hurt people, who repent. He did not do what Satan does and subject them to more pain.

The problem for me was a lack of understanding of who Jesus is in the RCC. I left and wandered in the wilderness for awhile until I started to read scripture for myself without the RCC lenses. I was surprised. I remember going outside and yelling out at God I give you a mustard seed, it is this I say you might exist. I was rude but God reached his hand out to me and revealed the false teachings as I read. I did not have to be perfect, Jesus loved me as I was. He loved me and I did not need the RCC at all.

The problem is the RCC does not understand Jesus, who He is or how He wants to save us.

To mention it the priest would have to know about the gift.

If you are a real believer Jesus changes you, you start to develop a Christlike mind and then you cannot help it, you are both changed and want to change. You do not want to return to the pig sty. But we are human and not perfect, being holy is not being perfect. It is living in the kingdom.
