What is faith?

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1 KJV

I believe the faith spoken of here is faith that accompanies salvation.

Substance of things hoped for = This is our hope. Jesus Christ. The future. Resurrection from the dead. Eternal glory. Heaven.

Evidence is things not seen = This is all things in eternity past. The council of God, His decrees, creation, Jesus coming in the flesh, being born of a virgin. His obedience unto death and His resurrection and glorification. Faith has evidence and that is the work of God.

The just shall live by faith.

I would enjoy hearing others understanding of Hebrews 11:1

I would define faith as a supernaturally enabled belief in what God reveals to us, and a consequent trust upon his grace.

Faith is the substance of things Hoped for and the Evidence of things not seen...

Substance of things hoped for?

as Paul said, hope that is not realized is hope not realized.

Which would tend to lead too .......

anyway ....... never mind.

I'll give it some more thought.
