who do you consider to be the early church fathers? the apostles and disciples of Christ found in the NT or those who came after them?

if the latter, do you consider their writings / teachings to be scripture?

Early church fathers are the Christian writers of the first few centuries AD.

My most interesting period for writers at the moment is from the Apostolic and Apostolic Fathers, the 1st century AD to 178 AD when Irenaeus wrote his letter about the martyrs of Vienne who died the previous year, 177 AD. One of the martyrs was born in the First Century. So this bookends the period of the Apostolic Fathers.

So with the Apostolic Fathers' period you are talking about the period of Christian writers who were old enough to have known the apostles.

Here are few examples that are found in the New Testament and the modern Catholic and Orthodox Churches, but not found in most Protestant Churches.

Real presence of Christ in the Eucharist

Authority of bishops

Resolving controversies with church councils

Use of the Septuagint as a primary source for scripture

Rejection of the modern doctrine of sola scriptura

Confession to a priest

Anointing of the sick

Prayers to each person of the Trinity

Prayers for the departed
