As most of you are aware, we had a crash to forums and were down for over two days a while back. We did have to do an upgrade to the vbulletin software to fix the forums and that has created changes, VB no longer provide the hybrid or threaded forums. There are some issues/changes to the forums we are not able to fix or change. Also note the link address change, please let friends and posters know of the changed link to the forums. For now this is the only link available, https://forums.carm.org/vb5/ but if clicking on forum on carm.org homepage it will now send you to this link. (edited to add https: now working.

Again, we are working through some of the posting and viewing issues to learn how to post with the changes, you will have to check and test the different features, icons that have changed. You may also want to go to profile settings, since many of the notifications, information in profile, also to update/edit your avatar by clicking on avatar space, pull down arrow next to login for user settings.

Edit to add "How to read forums, to make it easier."
Pull down arrow next to login name upper right select profile, or user settings when page opens to profile, select link in tab that says Account. Then select/choose options, go down to Conversation Detail Options, Select Display mode Posts, NOT Activity, that selection of Posts will make the pages of discussions go to last post on last page rather than out of order that happens if you choose activity threads. Then be sure to go to bottom and select SAVE Changes in your profile options. You can then follow discussions by going through the pages, to the last page having latest responses. Then click on the other links Privacy, Notifications, to select viewing options, the forums get easier if you open all the tabs or links in your profile, user settings and select options. To join Super Member, pull down arrow next to login name, select User Settings and then click on tab/link at top that says Subscriptions.

Thank you for your patience and God Bless.

  • "The Hijacking of the Calvary Chapel Movement into the Coming One-World Religion"

Here is a very eye-opening article written by a man, Roger Oakland, who was personally invited to work with Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa by Chuck Smith himself. He is a Christian apologist with a sound, Biblically based ministry, Understanding The Times, who had many interactions with Pastor Smith over many years, many of them face to face.

For those of you who attend a Calvary Chapel, this article may serve as a warning of the apostasy that is weeding its way into the Calvary Chapel movement - something that has not happened overnight, but like all error, slips in gradually as Satan tries to work his way into once bedrocks of Christianity & destroy them from the inside out!

May you be granted eyes to see & ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church universal in these days of increasing apostasy & heresy!

I too once knew Chuck Smith and fellowshiped at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa (and a few CC congregations elsewhere in the country).

I note in that article that Mr. Oakland says,
"Churches that once taught the Bible faithfully verse by verse preparing the flock for the return of Jesus Christ now are looking for ways to make their services more seeker-friendly and are less concerned about the prophetic signs that we are living in the last of the last days. "
The problem is Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel never taught the Bible faithfully verse by verse. Never. I will give you three examples.

First, Chuck Smith was part of a movement that sought to remove the church and Christians from denominationalism. A noble cause but impractical. Impossible as long as he remained the affiliated pastor. Many pastors in the sixties, seventies, and early eighties tried this. C. J. Mahaney and Larry Tomszak and their "People of Destiny" network of churches (now known as "Sovereign Grace Ministries") and the more contemporary City Church congregations are other examples. What happens is these original leaders and their original congregation send out a team of "church-planters" and they first start a satellite congregation, one which is guided under the leadership of the original congregation. Now there are two churches bearing the name, mission, and teachings of that original congregation under a growing team of leaders. Then each of those congregations sends out another church-planting team and two more congregations are established. Now there are four Calvary Chapels and each of them sends out church-planters and so it grows exponentially. At some time we must ask ourselves this question: How many churches under a single affiliation do you have to have before you become a denomination?

Paul addressed this problem in his letters to the Corinthians when he noted that some were following Apollos and others Cephas. He sought to know only Christ and Christ crucified.

Calvary Chapel did and does preach the gospel, and for that they are to be commended. However, the did not and do not teach the [whole] Bible "faithfully verse by verse." By establishing an identity of Calvary Chapel congregations that separated them in small ways and large from the rest of the body of Christ they erred.

The second mistake to be laid at Chuck Smith's feet is his history of making false predictions about the future coming of Jesus. Along with John Walvoord and Hal Lindsey Chuck Smith was very popular in the 1970's propaganda surrounding the imminent return of Jesus and the removal of the true Christians from the planet. To his credit he seemed to have learned from his mistakes much sooner than Walvoord, and much, much sooner and better than Lindsey (who continues to profit off of false prognostications) and exited from the practice of date-setting before them. However, he continued to teach and preach a far-futurist eschatology that compromises core church doctrines and causes dissociated behavior among its adherents. Calvary Chapel continues to do so to this day and that, ironically is the paradoxical concern of Mr. Oakland.

Third, not only did Mr. Smith not teach scripture faithfully when he made false predictions (error #2) but this far futurist eschatology that derived from John Darby is an eschatology that contradicts 1800 years of church teaching. It says God created a world He intends to let go to hell in a hand basket (so it's a corrupted theology). It teaches the Christians will need to be removed because the church will grow apostate, even though Jesus said not even the gates of hell would not prevail over it (so it's a corrupted eschatology). It teaches the Jews will have to go through a period of suffering before they repent and come to Christ (a corrupted works-based soteriology to which they don't admit). It simultaneously teaches a victorious Christ that will not be able to save creation from the defeated enemy's destruction of the planet (a corrupted Christology), and it places the adherent in the dubious position of simultaneously having to preach the world is going to hell in a hand basket any day now while they go about their lives acting as if it's not really true (a corrupted and self-contradictory witness). Lastly, they claim to be the most literal exegetes but anyone who has ever bothered to read a far-futurist interpretation of scripture with his/her Bible in hand and open readily sees they are wildly interpretive and assert eisegetic inference ad nauseam (a corrupted hermeneutic).

So... Roger Oakland is correct to be concerned about Calvary Chapel but he's missed the forest for the one (misguided) tree upon which he's fixated. Bringing people to a salvific relationship with Jesus is one thing. Teaching those converts to live salvifically is another. The latter cannot be done thoroughly from a corrupted theology, Christology, ecclesiology, and witness. Even though such a thing is not specifically mentioned anywhere in the Bible, the one-world church has been around for a long time and people come to worship at its idol of self on a daily basis. It's curious that your handle refers to a long-established creed, AC. For 18 centuries Christianity was creedal but that has gradually been replaced by the "personal experience." Chuck Smith (and many others) fell prey to that error of elevating personal experience above the importance of the creeds and as a consequence he continued to propagate further error into the body of Christ. Roger Oakland's "epiphany" is a symptom of the problem, not part of the solution.

A thing to keep in mind is that satan does not need for there to be one uniform world religion. In fact, we already have one world religion, the fallen self which is what people normally call the "I" or reason, or logic...which is the prevailing way of understanding things...and so it matters little what 'beliefs' that fallen self has, as long as the person is firmly into the logic of this world, and believes in this world. And last I checked, most Christians I know DO believe in this world.

The one-mind or universal one is already here, ready to go and that step completed. satan has no problem being hindu or buddhist or muslim or catholic or evangelical. none. And has a mimic version of God, that one you are talking about, to fit any type of soul and her needs, and so to trick any type of soul.

The mark is merely the decision of a soul to wear that mind, and not to wear His mind, and not to believe and accept Him. The one religion is just those who accepted satan and not Him, regardless of the 'outward' man. What matters is who the soul accepts, satan or Him. It's not a flesh thing, a worldly religion.

The history of the Calvary Chapel movement is available for all to read. Please note: Chuck Smith cannot "lead" any longer.

That said, I attended Calvary Chapel Albuquerque for many years and the church teaches the bible verse by verse as advertised.

Here is a statement of beliefs for anyone actively looking for a current apostasy or heresy:

        See: http://www.calvaryabq.org/churchinfo_whatwebelieve.asp

          Hi.
          long time
hope all is well with you, and yours.
I have a news report, which I think is of utmost importance on this topic.

Apostasy of any one who follows jess is literally, one choice away.
one day, a series of choices, a sin, for which one is unrepentant for.
one week, a continuing series of ongoing choices.
perhaps this is obvious, but when I read things like this, I find myself wondering, perhaps the obvious isn't so obvious.

But please understand that each and every single follower of Jesus is a choice away from apostasy.
I remind my pastor on away regular basis that his continud teaching of the Bible is of the it ost importance to the life of the church.
if we get away from the 4 basics of Christian living,
          prayer
          reading
fellowship with the other Jesus followers
testifying about the life of Jesus.
it creates an environment where apostasy can flourish.
God is real. He can be known. You only cheat yourself by giving what you call reasons, and are nothing more than excuses. There's an old saying:
an excuse is nothing more than a skin of reason, over a skeleton of lies.
