    On the Secular board, I have been in an argument with another poster regarding Clement V and any role he allegedly played in Jewish persecution in Europe.

    I said he did not. I claim his actions indirectly led to future hardships for Jews through his abolishment of usury in the church (this leading to successful Jewish banking families, and this then leading to general animosity in Europe down the road).

    Because I did not specifically say why I believe Clement V was responsible for European antisemitism, my opponent understood me to accuse Clement of direct persecution of Jews. I say there is no record of such.

    Anyone here care to chime in? I won't be returning to this thread but please contribute to the link below if so inclined.
