As most of you are aware, we had a crash to forums and were down for over two days a while back. We did have to do an upgrade to the vbulletin software to fix the forums and that has created changes, VB no longer provide the hybrid or threaded forums. There are some issues/changes to the forums we are not able to fix or change. Also note the link address change, please let friends and posters know of the changed link to the forums. For now this is the only link available, https://forums.carm.org/vb5/ but if clicking on forum on carm.org homepage it will now send you to this link. (edited to add https: now working.

Again, we are working through some of the posting and viewing issues to learn how to post with the changes, you will have to check and test the different features, icons that have changed. You may also want to go to profile settings, since many of the notifications, information in profile, also to update/edit your avatar by clicking on avatar space, pull down arrow next to login for user settings.

Edit to add "How to read forums, to make it easier."
Pull down arrow next to login name upper right select profile, or user settings when page opens to profile, select link in tab that says Account. Then select/choose options, go down to Conversation Detail Options, Select Display mode Posts, NOT Activity, that selection of Posts will make the pages of discussions go to last post on last page rather than out of order that happens if you choose activity threads. Then be sure to go to bottom and select SAVE Changes in your profile options. You can then follow discussions by going through the pages, to the last page having latest responses. Then click on the other links Privacy, Notifications, to select viewing options, the forums get easier if you open all the tabs or links in your profile, user settings and select options. To join Super Member, pull down arrow next to login name, select User Settings and then click on tab/link at top that says Subscriptions.

Thank you for your patience and God Bless.

  • If Joseph Smith Really Did "Restore" Christianity, Where Are.......?

    1. Where are verses in the Bible speaking of Distinctive Mormon Doctrines?

    2. Where did Jesus teach that God the Father is an exalted human being?

    3. Where did Jesus teach that Mormon men can become gods?

    4. Where did Jesus teach about baptizing dead people?

    5. Where did Jesus instruct Christians to go out and build temples?

    6. Where did Jesus teach that polygamy will be practiced one earth by his followers?

    7. Where did Jesus teach that polygamy will be practiced by the saved in heaven?

    8. Where did Jesus teach that there are three heavens?

    9. Where did Jesus teach that the Father has a physical body?

10.Where did Jesus teach that marriages had to be sealed in a temple?

    11. Where did Jesus teach that God the Father was NOT YHWH?

    12. Where did Jesus teach that a new name will be given you in some temple?

    13. Where did Jesus teach that husbands shall resurrect their wives?

    14. Where did Jesus teach that a "prophet" would lead His Church and not the Holy Spirit?

    15. Where did Jesus teach that one had to "pray" about something to see if it's spiritually true?

    16. Where did Jesus teach that His followers had to abstain from certain foods or drinks?

    17. Where did Jesus teach that He would come again, but burn all who do not tithe?

    18. Where did Jesus teach that He had to go to the New World - didn't He send His disciples into all the World?

    19. Where did Jesus teach that His Church would have to be restored?

    20. Where did Jesus teach that some New World Jews would write new Scriptures, but then buy it until it was revealed to a witch in Palmyra, NY.

Surely if Joseph Smith really did "restore" the true Christian faith, Jesus would have given some instruction on these matters. And please don't give us the bologna that all these doctrines and teachings were transmitted "secretly." Jesus said He did nothing in secret. "Secret teachings" is a classic doctrine of Gnosticism.

We see a total lack of responses. And why is that? Because Mormons have none.

If the world still had those things they wouldnít have needed restoring. Youíll notice that the Lord had no need of restoring a knowledge of the Atonement or of the resurection. It wasnít necessary, the world hadnít lost that.

Well, go ahead and show us where the Bible has Jesus teaching those points. If pointless and absurd remarks are all you can respond with, don't bother, Jeff. That's the quality of responses we've come to expect.

Where did the Lord Jesus teach any of the twenty points indicated in the OP? Do you want us to believe that the core doctrines of Mormonism just happened to be left out of the Bible, which even Joey Smith didn't bother reinserting into the NT text?

Still no legitimate responses, folks. And you never will get any Mormon scholarly responses to the issues raised in the OP.

I don’t believe those thing were left out of the scriptures by the original authors. I think it’s prettty obvious that they aren’t there now. Where along the way they were lost is anyone’s guess.

Oh, it must be that they just didn't appear in the ancient manuscripts because somebody tore the teachings out, knowing that the 19th century would come along, and Joey would restore it all. Come on Mormons, get a grip on reality! And whoever tore them out, was able to do it with hundreds and hundreds of ancient manuscripts, too! Cut us a break!

How about making the right "guess," LURKER, they weren't there in the first place.

Your fallacy consisted of starting with a specious or at least unfounded premise--that the contents of your list MUST be in the Bible somewhere-- and MUST show them being taught BY JESUS in the Bible somewhere.

If someone demanded that YOU show where the Bible shows Jesus mentioning Eggs Benedict, I hope you'd have enough critical thinking skills to ask them "What makes you think the Bible is REQUIRED to mention it?"

                          Loads!

                          2. Where did Jesus teach that God the Father is an exalted human being?
Those verses in which Jesus says that he has a Father in heaven who is greater than him, and who has sent him, and he is returning to him; that he is the "express image of his Father's person;" and that anyone who has seen him has seen the Father etc.

                          3. Where did Jesus teach that Mormon men can become gods?
That was a very common teaching of the early Church Father's, proving that it was a common teaching of the early Church.

                          4. Where did Jesus teach about baptizing dead people?
Paul talks about that in the Bible (1Cor. 15:29).

                          5. Where did Jesus instruct Christians to go out and build temples?
It doesn't teach them not to either. It doesn't teach them to build churches neither, so why do Christians build churches?

                          6. Where did Jesus teach that polygamy will be practiced one earth by his followers?
Polygamy was permissible under the old Jewish Law, and was practiced by the Jews during Jesus's lifetime, which Jesus never condemned. There are even signs that it was practiced among the early Christians (1 Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:6).

                          7. Where did Jesus teach that polygamy will be practiced by the saved in heaven?
That is not a polygamy issue, it is a marriage issue. Any kind of marriage that is okay on earth, it will be equally okay in heaven.

                          8. Where did Jesus teach that there are three heavens?
Paul talks about that in the Bible (2 Cor. 12:2).

                          9. Where did Jesus teach that the Father has a physical body?
                          See answer to question 2.

10.Where did Jesus teach that marriages had to be sealed in a temple?
Marriage doesn't have to be sealed in the temple.

                          11. Where did Jesus teach that God the Father was NOT YHWH?
The Bible teaches that the doctrine of the Godhead contains an element of mystery (1 Tim. 3:16), which means that some aspects of it are hidden.

                          12. Where did Jesus teach that a new name will be given you in some temple?
The Bible talks about the new name in Revelation 2:17.

                          13. Where did Jesus teach that husbands shall resurrect their wives?
He didn't, and neither does Mormonism.

                          14. Where did Jesus teach that a "prophet" would lead His Church and not the Holy Spirit?
The only way that God can lead his Church by the Holy Spirit is through prophets.

                          15. Where did Jesus teach that one had to "pray" about something to see if it's spiritually true?
                          James 1:5.

                          16. Where did Jesus teach that His followers had to abstain from certain foods or drinks?
It doesn't, and neither does Mormonism.

                          17. Where did Jesus teach that He would come again, but burn all who do not tithe?
                          Malachi 4:1

                          18. Where did Jesus teach that He had to go to the New World - didn't He send His disciples into all the World?
The known world to them at that time did not include America.

                          19. Where did Jesus teach that His Church would have to be restored?
                          Yes, Acts 3:21.

The Bible talks about the "falling away," and the "restitution of all things" already discussed above.

Even after you have received an answer you continue to make the same error. They just didnít appear in the ancient manuscript? I assume that they did. Of course, we donít have that ancient manuscript. What we have is a copy of a copy of selected and edited portions of that manuscript translated into several variants of English.
