As most of you are aware, we had a crash to forums and were down for over two days a while back. We did have to do an upgrade to the vbulletin software to fix the forums and that has created changes, VB no longer provide the hybrid or threaded forums. There are some issues/changes to the forums we are not able to fix or change. Also note the link address change, please let friends and posters know of the changed link to the forums. For now this is the only link available, https://forums.carm.org/vb5/ but if clicking on forum on carm.org homepage it will now send you to this link. (edited to add https: now working.

Again, we are working through some of the posting and viewing issues to learn how to post with the changes, you will have to check and test the different features, icons that have changed. You may also want to go to profile settings, since many of the notifications, information in profile, also to update/edit your avatar by clicking on avatar space, pull down arrow next to login for user settings.

Edit to add "How to read forums, to make it easier."
Pull down arrow next to login name upper right select profile, or user settings when page opens to profile, select link in tab that says Account. Then select/choose options, go down to Conversation Detail Options, Select Display mode Posts, NOT Activity, that selection of Posts will make the pages of discussions go to last post on last page rather than out of order that happens if you choose activity threads. Then be sure to go to bottom and select SAVE Changes in your profile options. You can then follow discussions by going through the pages, to the last page having latest responses. Then click on the other links Privacy, Notifications, to select viewing options, the forums get easier if you open all the tabs or links in your profile, user settings and select options. To join Super Member, pull down arrow next to login name, select User Settings and then click on tab/link at top that says Subscriptions.

Thank you for your patience and God Bless.

There is such a thing as garlic chives. I grow them. They might impart a slight garlic flavor. You could grow them in a pot in a sunny window.

Herbs are great and most are easy to grow. Look at dill...it is a short-lived annual that is very cold sensitive. Yet, oddly, I had planted a variety in early fall, that is shorter than tne usual vsriety, and harvested thecstems and froze them. The tiny leaves fall completely off the stems, once frozen. But last week, to my astonishment, I notice a nice, bushy green bunch of dill growing in the garden, where I had planted seeds in early fall! We have had a fairly cold winter . With plenty of hard freezes. But it is flourishing! I could hardly believe it. It is supposed to get REALLY cold tomorrow night, so I may pick a bunch and freeze it, just in case the plant doesn't survive. And probably cover my rosemary bush. It does not like temps much below 20 degrees. Part of it died this past summer, I think because it was so wet.

I love fresh basil, but it cannot be frozen--it turns black. I grow German thyme, but it gets woody and lanky and I think our plant died this summer, also due to being so wet. Ditto with my sage. Most herbs do not seem to like too much rain, except maybe basil.

Why cannot you grow basil? It should do well in a sunny window in a pot, if it is kept well-watered.

Try it inside, when it gets too hot. They might get too hot outside in the summer. And therefore, too dry. Do you have a sunny windowsill where you could grow the basil?

I will have to think about. We are going from one heatwave to anotheR, even Tasmania is suffering.

Okay. The only temps for Australia I see in the newspaper are for Sydney, and it hasn't been too bad there.

well today Melbourne is the hottest capital. It was 90 degrees early this morning before the day started. Adelaide has been scorching. All the country towns against the country are being belted with day after day of extreme heat. The weather is causing the hot weather built up in the centre to blow over the the country, especially south. Later today we are getting some cooler weather.

Wow, that is terrible. I thought Alice Springs was bad....Hope you did finally get some cooler weather. I can only see in the newspaper what Sydney's weather is and it has been fairly mild there with some rain. Too bad the rest of your country isn't experiencing that.

The worst thing about this weather is it affects our food supply and the cost of food. We were blessed no blackouts in our area. Today is cooler but more humid. Love the cooler conditions. The week here is meant to be cooler. The fires in tassie are causing problems from a natural habitat point of view, as some fires are in very old untouched areas that have not had fires.

You know the weather is extreme when there are warning a about dog's paws and putting water out for birds.
