As most of you are aware, we had a crash to forums and were down for over two days a while back. We did have to do an upgrade to the vbulletin software to fix the forums and that has created changes, VB no longer provide the hybrid or threaded forums. There are some issues/changes to the forums we are not able to fix or change. Also note the link address change, please let friends and posters know of the changed link to the forums. For now this is the only link available, https://forums.carm.org/vb5/ but if clicking on forum on carm.org homepage it will now send you to this link. (edited to add https: now working.

Again, we are working through some of the posting and viewing issues to learn how to post with the changes, you will have to check and test the different features, icons that have changed. You may also want to go to profile settings, since many of the notifications, information in profile, also to update/edit your avatar by clicking on avatar space, pull down arrow next to login for user settings.

Edit to add "How to read forums, to make it easier."
Pull down arrow next to login name upper right select profile, or user settings when page opens to profile, select link in tab that says Account. Then select/choose options, go down to Conversation Detail Options, Select Display mode Posts, NOT Activity, that selection of Posts will make the pages of discussions go to last post on last page rather than out of order that happens if you choose activity threads. Then be sure to go to bottom and select SAVE Changes in your profile options. You can then follow discussions by going through the pages, to the last page having latest responses. Then click on the other links Privacy, Notifications, to select viewing options, the forums get easier if you open all the tabs or links in your profile, user settings and select options. To join Super Member, pull down arrow next to login name, select User Settings and then click on tab/link at top that says Subscriptions.

Thank you for your patience and God Bless.

  • Merry Christmas!

I would like to wish everyone here at CARM a very Merry Christmas!

According to the Bible, Jesus was born in December.

    1. Zacharias serves in the Temple in August.

Luke 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia:

1 Chronicles 24:10a The seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth [August] to Abijah [Abia],

    2. Zacharias goes home and Elizabeth conceives [John the Baptist] in September.

Luke 1:23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
Luke 1:24a And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived,

    3. Six months later, in March, Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth to tell her she is with child.

Luke 1:36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

    4. Nine months later, in December, Jesus is born.
THE BIBLE SAYS IT, THAT SETTLES IT.

    Why thankyou.
A bit early, but still appreciated.
And a happy holiday to you also.

No. According to the bible, Jesus was born in the season when shepherds in Palestine graze their sheep on open country.
This would be early spring. March or April. Possibly as late as May.
The church later moved Christmas to December to compete with Saturnalia and Yule.

    Ok. And this matters how?

Luke 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia:
Fred 2:6 thats nice. What is your point?

1 Chronicles 24:10a The seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth [August] to Abijah [Abia],
    3 records 35;21b The what?

    2. Zacharias goes home and Elizabeth conceives [John the Baptist] in September.
    Ok....

Luke 1:23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
Luke 1:24a And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived,
Fred 2;34 Ok.... So this has what to do with anything?

So a lot of creative speculation from ignorance. Got it.
When evil is powerful, good men are silenced.

I'm thankful for all the various pagan traditions that made Christmas what it is today!
      I want to hear it from your lips;
      What's it worth shining for?

Kinda like shooting a Mona Lisa with a paint gun, isn't it?

Considering the reality of Christmas tradition origins, you would more accurately say (while maintaining a Christian bias) that it is like shooting the Mona Lisa out of a paint gun.

The majority (if not all) of our Christmas customs came from pagan celebrations. This is not a bad thing at all! We simply have a richer history out of which to celebrate every season!

                  Here's a bit of trivia:

In the song GOD REST YE MERRY GENTLEMEN, where does the comma belong and why?

I read about this a while ago. Here's a good explanation:

The word rest in "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" simply means keep or make. Yet to completely uncover the final key to solving this mystery of meaning, a comma needs to be placed after the word "merry." Therefore, in modern English, the first line of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" should read "God make you mighty, gentlemen."

Cool factoid! How is this relevant to our current conversation?

                      The song says:

Remember Christ our Saviour was born upon this day,
To save us all from Satan's power when we had gone astray.

                      "This day" = December 25th.

                      Here's a mental exercise:

                      OCT 31 = DEC 25

In what context is this true?

                          31 (octal) = 25 (decimal)

What may look like a contradiction may, in truth, be only a paradox.
