As most of you are aware, we had a crash to forums and were down for over two days a while back. We did have to do an upgrade to the vbulletin software to fix the forums and that has created changes, VB no longer provide the hybrid or threaded forums. There are some issues/changes to the forums we are not able to fix or change. Also note the link address change, please let friends and posters know of the changed link to the forums. For now this is the only link available, https://forums.carm.org/vb5/ but if clicking on forum on carm.org homepage it will now send you to this link. (edited to add https: now working.

Again, we are working through some of the posting and viewing issues to learn how to post with the changes, you will have to check and test the different features, icons that have changed. You may also want to go to profile settings, since many of the notifications, information in profile, also to update/edit your avatar by clicking on avatar space, pull down arrow next to login for user settings.

Edit to add "How to read forums, to make it easier."
Pull down arrow next to login name upper right select profile, or user settings when page opens to profile, select link in tab that says Account. Then select/choose options, go down to Conversation Detail Options, Select Display mode Posts, NOT Activity, that selection of Posts will make the pages of discussions go to last post on last page rather than out of order that happens if you choose activity threads. Then be sure to go to bottom and select SAVE Changes in your profile options. You can then follow discussions by going through the pages, to the last page having latest responses. Then click on the other links Privacy, Notifications, to select viewing options, the forums get easier if you open all the tabs or links in your profile, user settings and select options. To join Super Member, pull down arrow next to login name, select User Settings and then click on tab/link at top that says Subscriptions.

Thank you for your patience and God Bless.

  • Bible Studies Class Bill Under Fire in North Dakota..Public Schools

North Dakota legislators have proposed a bill allowing public high schools to offer an elective Bible studies class as part of its social studies curriculum. The bill would provide an option for schools to teach a class on the bible from a historical perspective,
"The intention of this bill is to" State Rep. Aaron McWilliams, R-Hillsboro, a co-sponsor of the bill, told Fox News. "My position is that no religious text should be excluded from being taught as it relates to the historical or philosophical influences in our history or on our society today."

But the Republican lawmakers have come under heavy criticism for the proposal. The ACLU even stepped in and called it "unconstitutional."
    ----------
This is from Jan.2019 and will keep track of its development. Litigation threats are impeding at present. North Dakota Public Schools funded 95% thru State and local taxes. Unless outside sources are willing to pay the freight for education they should have no say in what the state offers as electives (optional) in Social Studies as it relates to American History.

Thus the schools / education in the usa has plummeted from good to bad to worse ever since 1962-72. Attacks on students from many vectors - diet (bad food supply and use) , medical mal-feasace, sick-ology, government mal-feasance , teachers unable to cope with so many un-educated parents<< not training children in what is right at home before school..,, << More money INSTEAD of returning to WHAT WORKED ! More and more and more of WHAT DOES NOT WORK ! Everywhere across the country... (by planning that way) .....

State ACLU opposes education bills | News, Sports, Jobs - Minot Daily News

The ACLU has also expressed its opposition to another education-related bill, House Bill 1538, which would have given teachers the “freedom to teach strengths and weaknesses of scientific theories and controversies.” The ACLU objected to the bill because it claimed it was an attempt to promote creationism in schools and oppose evolution.

“House Bill 1538 is the latest line of attack against evolution in a longstanding campaign waged by certain religious interests to promote creationism in the public schools,” said Smith in a statement issued Jan. 18. “Under the pretext of fostering academic exploration and critical thinking, this legislation would authorize teachers to present lessons regarding so-called scientific controversies.

Maybe the schools up in Dakota ought to have you teach about the G-d who couldn't die!

I think CARM shows that teaching the Bible from an historical perspective is a nonstarter, there is no historical perspective which is acceptable to so many Christians. Any tools of the historians are rendered moot.

Although this bill is attempting to sneak in by the back door, most liberals like my self would actually have no problem with a course looking at the historical and cultural context of the Bible in an objective fashion. The real problem is that the curriculum would have to be carefully worked out so as not to offend any one of the 40,000 plus Christian denominations plus the Jews and Muslims who both regard the Bible as holy scripture. Teachers would have to be carefully chosen and even more carefully trained so as not to be perceived as being biased or as using the class for some sort of Christian indoctrination. Aside from the question of legality, I think that the practical problems in implementing the class and in ensuring that it be taught in an unbiased manner would render it a constant source of protest and controversy. In short, it won't fly.
The floggings will continue until morale improves.

Never argue with a fool. They will only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

The same groups which don't trust public education to teach history and science want public education to teach about the Bible.

Heck, the Bible is so controversial, the literalists don't take "This is my Body" literally while counting back the years and take Genesis literally, and the Catholics, who "don't take the Bible literally" assume our Lord was being literal while being silent on whether Genesis is valid science!
