As most of you are aware, we had a crash to forums and were down for over two days a while back. We did have to do an upgrade to the vbulletin software to fix the forums and that has created changes, VB no longer provide the hybrid or threaded forums. There are some issues/changes to the forums we are not able to fix or change. Also note the link address change, please let friends and posters know of the changed link to the forums. For now this is the only link available, https://forums.carm.org/vb5/ but if clicking on forum on carm.org homepage it will now send you to this link. (edited to add https: now working.

Again, we are working through some of the posting and viewing issues to learn how to post with the changes, you will have to check and test the different features, icons that have changed. You may also want to go to profile settings, since many of the notifications, information in profile, also to update/edit your avatar by clicking on avatar space, pull down arrow next to login for user settings.

Edit to add "How to read forums, to make it easier."
Pull down arrow next to login name upper right select profile, or user settings when page opens to profile, select link in tab that says Account. Then select/choose options, go down to Conversation Detail Options, Select Display mode Posts, NOT Activity, that selection of Posts will make the pages of discussions go to last post on last page rather than out of order that happens if you choose activity threads. Then be sure to go to bottom and select SAVE Changes in your profile options. You can then follow discussions by going through the pages, to the last page having latest responses. Then click on the other links Privacy, Notifications, to select viewing options, the forums get easier if you open all the tabs or links in your profile, user settings and select options. To join Super Member, pull down arrow next to login name, select User Settings and then click on tab/link at top that says Subscriptions.

Thank you for your patience and God Bless.

    Wikipedia: Novum Testamentum Graece

Today the designation Novum Testamentum Graece normally refers to the Nestle-Aland editions, named after the scholars who led the critical editing work. The text, edited by the Institut für neutestamentliche Textforschung (Institute for New Testament Textual Research) is currently in its 28th edition, abbreviated NA28. The Nestle-Aland text is the primary source for most contemporary New Testament translations, although most are translations of the earlier text that was available at the time of translation. The Nestle-Aland text is also the standard for academic work in New Testament studies.

The title Novum Testamentum Graece can also be applied to the United Bible Societies (UBS) edition which contains the same base text (the latest UBS 4th ed contains the text from the NA27).

Members of the Editorial Committee of the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament comprise:

    UBS1, 1966
    UBS2, 1968

Kurt Aland, Matthew Black, Bruce Metzger, Allen Wikgren.

    UBS3, 1975

Kurt Aland, Matthew Black, Carlo Maria Martini, Bruce Metzger, Allen Wikgren.

    Wikipedia: Carlo Maria Martini
Carlo Maria Martini, S.J., (15 February 1927 – 31 August 2012) was an Italian Jesuit and cardinal of the Catholic Church. He was Archbishop of Milan from 1980 to 2002 and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1983.

Martini entered the Society of Jesus in 1944and was ordained a priest in 1952. His appointment as Archbishop of Milan in 1980 was an unusual circumstance, as Jesuits are not traditionally named bishops. He was on the liberal wing of the church hierarchy.

    Same-sex unions

In his book Credere e conoscere, published shortly before his death, Martini set out his disagreement with the Catholic teaching against homosexual civil unions. "I disagree with the positions of those in the Church that take issue with civil unions", he wrote. "It is not bad, instead of casual sex between men
    Kurt Aland (28 March 1915 – 13 April 1994)

He was one of the principal editors of Nestle-Aland - Novum Testamentum Graece for the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft and The Greek New Testament for the United Bible Societies.

Aland was married twice. His first marriage was to Ingeborg Aland (1941-1971) (they had three children together). In 1972 he married Barbara Aland.

He died in Münster, Germany in 1994.
The adulterous relationship Barbara had with Kurt paid off, right after their 1972 marriage, she was elevated quickly?

    Wikipedia: Barbara Aland

Barbara Aland, née Ehlers (born 12 April 1937 in Hamburg, Germany)

Since 1972 she acted as private lecturer, later on she became professorship for "Church History and New Testament Research with eminently consideration of Christian Orient" at the Evangelisch-Theologischen Fakultät in Münster, Germany. In 1983 she became director of the Institute for New Testament Textual Research (which was founded in 1959 by her husband Kurt Aland) and also the Bible Museum.

This institute achieved worldwide significance by publishing the "Nestle-Aland" - Novum Testamentum Graece and the UBS Greek New Testament.

    This is really sad!

When character assassination is the best you have, you don't have anything.

Care to quote us some scripture that would support the belief in and/or the preaching of the King James ONLY doctrine? You don't have any, do you?

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Geneva 1599

Then you should reject the King James Version

      1. King James was a tyrant who killed our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
      2. King James usurped the authority of the church by setting himself up as the head of the church. The "pope" of English rule.
      3. King James was a drunkard. In direct rejection of Proverbs 31:4 in his OWN product, the KJV

Pro 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
Pro 31:5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

      4. King James forced his edition of the Bible through oppression and banning God's word from being printed.

Your vain repetition that displays the use of unscriptural, unjust measures/standards [an abomination to the LORD] does not support your non-scriptural KJV-only reasoning.

You dodge or avoid the fact that the Church of England makers of the KJV borrowed a good number of renderings from the 1582 Roman Catholic Rheims New Testament, which is on the KJV-only view's corrupt tree of Bibles, and from an edition of the Latin Vulgate of Jerome, which is also on the KJV-only view's corrupt tree of Bibles. The makers of the KJV used Hebrew-Latin lexicons and Greek-Latin lexicons that often had the renderings of the Latin Vulgate of Jerome as its definition of Hebrew words and Greek words as the makers of the KJV translated through the medium of Latin. They had no Hebrew-English or Greek-English lexicons. Do you claim that the Latin Vulgate of Jerome is part of a good tree or a corrupt tree?

Are you claiming that the renderings from the 1582 Rheims NT in the 1611 KJV cannot bring forth good fruit?

Peanut, I suspect you're missing the point entirely so let me spell it out for you.

If character assassination or character flaws would destroy the validity of the great modern English translations then it follows that the validity of the KJV [as well as other early English translations] is then destroyed likewise! First off, we're all sinners and that would include everyone involved in the copying of the manuscripts, the collating of the texts, and all the production processes involved in bringing a translation to market.

But even more to the point, you have the TR, a text collated by Erasmus ...a Catholic priest and homosexual .... underling the KJV. You have King James himself whose bi-sexual escapades are recorded history. When we look at the translators we have some known and serious defects in some ... one a town drunk, a couple directly involved in the burning at the stake of some Christians! And on and on and on.

This has all been pointed out numerous times right here on CARM in response to the character assassination claims by any of numerous KJVOs here.

We know very little of the personal lives of most of the editors of Textus Receptus editions, and we do not even know the full names of all the KJV translators (and usually the only biographical information we have for most of them is their eulogies) - certainly King James himself was no model Christian, so it's a little tough to insist that those people were oh-so-much-more moral than the people associated with critical editions of the Greek NT or with newer translations.

Three of your alleged missing verses are not missing at all, sir. They are found where they belong!

Matthew 17:21 is found in Mark 9:29

Mathew 18:11 is found in Luke 19:10

Romans 6:24 is found at Romans 6:20

The texual support for Acts 8:37 is so lacking that the verse is also left out of some of the modern English Bibles translated from the MT!

You have not validated King James ONLYISM at all, sir. You still have the errors in the KJV that are corrected in and by great modern English translations. Plus, and this is really critical, YOU HAVE NOT QUOTED EVEN ONE SCRIPTURE THAT VALIDATES THE MAN MADE KING JAMES ONLY DOCTRINE!!

Do you apply this verse consistently and justly?

You ignore the fact that the KJV lacks witnesses.

There are readings added to the KJV's underlying text that are not found in any known Greek NT manuscripts (the readings were added as conjectures by Erasmus or Beza or the readings were translated from an edition of the Latin Vulgate of Jerome).

Do you support a KJV reading that has zero original-language manuscript witnesses to support it?
