Paul wrote about repentance from dead works in Hebrews 6:1. Some new versions corrupt that and thus support a works based salvation.

Although you have a valid point here with respect to the NIV, which is becoming increasingly unreliable as a translation, the matter is that nearly all other translations retain "dead / lifeless works." It is only the NIV and a small numbers of others (e.g. the New Living Translation) that have changed the translation significantly.
There are more than just the NIV and the NLT.
