Joey Smith and his sidekick, Sidney Rigdon, always called Christians "sectarians." It comes from the Campbellite movement to which Rigdon belonged. Mormonism is the cultic offspring of Campbellism.

Didn't McConkie also call non- Mormons sectarians?
Very likely. The term has been applied to orthodox Christians since the inception of Mormonism. I believe it originated with Campbell who thought he was "restoring" true Christianity - a group that Sidney Rigdon was involved with. Today the Campbellites are very "sectarian" and divided into three groups: The Disciples of Christ, the Church of Christ, and The Christian Church and there may be more. Funny how those condemning Christianity as "sectarian" became divided themselves into "sects." Rigdon brought Campbellite ideas into the Mormon cult, plus his own ideas about the "restoration." The whole "priesthood" baloney was integrated into Smith's Church years after it was founded with the story that he and Ollie had been ordained by Peter, James and John and John the Baptist. You might say that the foundation of Mormon "priesthood" was a fairy tale retrofitted into the cult's claims: https://www.mrm.org/priesthood-restoration#:~:text=On May 15, 1829, Mormon,God's kingdom with full authority.
